It's easy to understand why this hotel is 196th position out of the thousands of hotels in London on trip advisor. It is a real hidden gem. Stay here if you need a hotel in the area.
Situated next door to the Novotel on South Bank, I have walked past it many time because it is very unimposing, and dare I say almost unnoticeable. All that changes from the minute you walk into reception.
Check in was fast and pleasant, and you were given your free wireless access code without having to ask for it.
The room was not too large but the space well utilised for business travellers. A business desk with chargeable wired internet connection reasonable lighting, BUT a negative comment on the room was there was no stand or surface to unpack your luggage. I did not want to put my bag onto the bed and the business desk would not support the weight, so I had to use the floor.
Also, the business desk had a single socket, not good for charging your computer, phone and iPad. No other sockets were accessible in the room.
Large screen plasma TV in room. Great shower and some clever lighting in the cubicle.
Large wardrobe, room safe, iron & board - no fridge.
NOTE: wireless internet access was strong in the bar, restaurant and room. So why you would pay for wired access puzzles me.
The bar was minimalistic and the wine selection was reasonable. I opted for a mid price range Australian wine and it was excellent - a pleasant surprise to get this quality of wine in a hotel chain.
The restaurant had a great range of appetisers, starters and main dishes to chose from and again, I was surprised at the selection for a budget hotel. A selection of steaks, fish, salads, pasta and veggie dishes. I had Aberdeen Angus burger and it was one of the best beef burgers I have eaten in years. Well done chef.
The barmaid also doubled as a server and she was very attentive, pleasant, funny and professional - a real asset to the hotel.
Breakfast was vey very good - buffet style with a large choice of breads & pastries. Nice self-serve coffee pots always topped up. A light an airy feel to the restaurant because of the large windows.
Check out easy and painless.
I would not hesitate in recommending the hotel to others. The location is great and minutes from London or Blackfriars bridges and a large selection of pubs and restaurants in the area.
