“Pleasant stay”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

Stayed here for three nights recently with my mother as it was close to my son's flat. Nice garden to front of hotel. Our room and communal areas were well kept and clean. There was traffic noise but we still slept well. Plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants nearby and close to the tube and bus stop. Staff were very friendly and helpful which we appreciated, a smile and a chat makes a big difference. We enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.

We stayed for one night as my husband was entering the London to Brighton Bike Ride & this Hotel. was walking distance from the starting point. We arrived at 14:45 & parked our car on site as we had already pre-booked a space which i would advise. We where greeted by a very bubbly guy who made us feel very welcome. Due to the bike ride he had laid out a plastic sheet in the sitting room so guests with bikes could bring their bikes in for safety & also work on them if needed. We booked a double with ensuite which was in the front of the main building, the room was a bit small but for one night it was ok. If we had been staying longer we would have felt a bit claustrophobic. The double bed was a bit small with only room for one bedside table which was at an angle . I myself felt this room was fine as a single , the room was very clean with a nice shower in the ensuite. You are given ear plugs as the noise from the constant traffic would keep you awake . All in all we would stay again but ask for a larger room away from the front . A good hairdryer, fan, iron & ironing board in the room which we were impressed with .

Room Tip: Room 4 a bit small for a Double.

I stayed here for one night before the London to Brighton bike ride. The staff (Alex in particular) were brilliant and very helpful. Everything was spotless and the room was very comfortable and well equipped. I was really chuffed to find 4 pillows rather than the standard 2. I've stayed in some more expensive hotels over the years but this was one of the cleanest I've ever seen. Bike storage was available and was well organised and secure. Balham Hill can be noisy at night but the windows do a reasonable job....the complimentary earplugs were a nice touch. Tea and coffee making facilities were plentiful and even had a good selection of biscuits. Can also recommend 'Pizzaria on the Park' which is a lovely restaurant 5 mins walk away past the tube station. Overall, brilliant and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms that look out onto Balham Hill will be noisy but the windows are pretty effective, its London...

We were so impressed by this hotel. The staff were just lovely - from the moment we arrived, they were available to show us around, were friendly and helpful and made us feel really at home. They provided a baby cot for my daughter and made sure we were comfortable.

I love feeling at home without feeling "invaded" and the Gateway were able to balance this perfectly. They made us feel welcome.

The room was lovely - with gorgeous bay windows and a cute little garden. The room was clean and light/sunny and we had excellent TV and wifi coverage. The bed was comfortable and had tea/coffee/biscuits in the room.

The hotel is extremely close to all amenities, including the tube station, shops, restaurants and a large park which was lovely for our daughter to play.

I really recommend the Gateway - it is so great value for money and has such great service. Our only regret was leaving to go home!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 9 - on the second floor. It was lovely; sunny and bright and with excellent wifi c...

Very clean, pleasant hotel. Helpful, charming staff, especially Alex, guy at the reception, and Anna - they gave me all the detailed hints and information about places I was about to visit and even gave me the travel guide. The room was spacious, always cleaned thoroughly and some cakes and tea were left every day. Close to the tube (2-3 minutes). Although the street was busy the noise was not too oppressive if I closed the window at night.
To summarize - a very good quality for a decent prize.

Room Tip: It could be sensible to ask for a relatively quiet, big room - I am sure the staff will give you so...

Staid here for three nights a couple of weeks ago. Great location just 5 minutes walk from the subway that then gives you access to all main areas. Nice restaurants, cafés and bars close by. When arriving we were greeted by Alex. A flamboyant, lovely, friendly Brazillian guy who made us welcome before showing us to our room.
The room was pretty basic but clean and comfortable. Despite double glazing a busy road is close by and it can be noisy. The owners recognise this by supplying ear plugs. That may seem silly to some but worked for us.
Good value, friendly, well positioned hotel

My partner and I travel a lot for business and I was a little unsure of what we would get for our money. However we were really pleased with the warm welcome, secure parking and clean facilities. The room was more than adequate with a large shower, comfortable bed and tea making facilities. The hotel arranged taxis for us to and from our night out. Whilst ear plugs were provided, we found we didn't need them, although the slight rumbling from the tube trains did amuse us 'country bumpkins'!

Great value for money when compared to London hotels. Clean and comfortable rooms. A warm welcome from incredibly polite, helpful staff. I would recommend this hotel.
