“Consistently good curry, great value, a hidden gem”
Reviewed 14 August 2013

Don't come expecting a romantic spot for two with time to linger - but if you like good curry, pleasant staff and great value this is your spot. The curry here is consistently great and the fact it is byo means it is really hard to spend over £15 per person - no matter how hard you try! We lived nearby for several years and came almost weekly - we have now moved further out of London but will always pop by when we're in the area and having conducted extensive curry research on curry houses in and around London (!) we still love this little spot most of all! Their takeaways are also great!

“A great little find”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

Taken here by my daughter (who lives in London) who is a regular visitor.
Big plus is that it is a BYO - without any corkage charge.
Not the easiest place in the world to find tucked away behind Guys Hospital (near to The Millers public house).
Although only small, they can open the large folding doors at the front onto a decking area to accommodate more (provided the weather is good).
The staff are very welcoming and very attentive (not over attentive though).
We began with the usual poppadums - the mint/yoghurt is especially nice.
Starters were chicken chat massala, and a mixed starter. All very good.
The mains were excellent. I chose the Cafe Nawaz Special a mix of chicken pulled off the bone and minced lamb in a medium flavour sauce - one of the nicest curries I have eaten.
My wife chose the Chicken Shashlik (this came with 10 pieces of tikka instead of the usual 6 or 8). Again this was excellently cooked.
My daughter had the Pistaccio Chicken - quite mild, but excellently flavoured and packed with chicken.
We had a plain nan and plate of mushroom rice - more than enough.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this cracking little place. Don't tell too many folk though!
TIP: When you get off at London Bridge come down the escalators at the side of The Shard and walk straight forward going past the ED entrance to Guys and you will walk virtually to the front door.

“Understated but excellent”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

Cafe Nawaz is not licensed - hence it sells no alcohol, but there are shpos nearby that can supply you with beer or wine, and the wait-staff will open and serve your drinks without charging any sort of fee. The food is London-Indian, milder than you find in more self-conciously upmarket Indian cuisine places (and it is superbly prepared and served with cheerful panache), not in such copious amounts that you must go away with a doggy-bag (though you certainly can if you wish). All in all, fabulous value and a delightful experience!

“Great take away”
Reviewed 28 April 2013

We have not eaten in yet but have tried their take away service and we were more than satisfied with it. The food was very good (they have an amazing almond naan), ready on time and very reasonably priced. We shared our starter, naan and rice and had 2 main courses for a total bill of 22 £. I'll use them again for my Indian take away!
