I stayed for 11 nights in this hotel and loved it. The room was modern, funky, light and bright. The tablet which allows you to change the lighting was brilliant. Most importantly, the bed was amazing. Super comfy and super big. Downstairs in the hotel was stylish and social, there was always a nice buzz of people around. I would definitely stay here again, it is in a lovely part of London. Well done Citizen M!

Definitely a hotel for the younger generation. The tablet is a toy but I got a bit frustrated at the time lapse on occasions. Nicely designed rooms with just enough space, a hugely comfy bed and great shower.

The location is a bit strange, there doesnt seem to be a lot around but its only a half hour walk to Covent Garden in one direction or London Bridge and the Tower of London in the other. Almost equidistant between Southwark tube station and London Bridge Tube so very easy to get around in zones 1 and 2.

I have to admit I dont really see the point in the self check in / out procedure. At one point we saw five 'helpers', surely it would be just as easy to have a normal reception.

Seems a bit strange to go to London then watch TV all day but I guess its nice to have films on demand, including (untested, honestly) free XXX movies.

We apparently had a room with a view (If Marks and Spencers qualifies as a view then Im missing something) and paid the £10 for breakfast which although just a buffet does have everything and you could spend all morning in there if you wish.

A nice modern clean hotel in a decent location at a competitive (for London) price

Room Tip: Dont bother if your offered upgrades, all rooms are the same, there are no views to speak of and bre...

Staying at CitizenM Bankside made me smile and I would go out of my way to stay with them again. It's the opposite of most corporate chains with its (admittedly slightly mad at times) LivingEtc decor. The ground floor area is a lovely, spacious place to be and great for working. The rooms are small but really cleverly designed, so they feel cocoon like rather than cell like. The beds are simply enormous!

The branding is quirky to the -nth degree but I liked that and admired the attention to detail. It's fun. More importantly, the place is not 'all fur coat and no knickers' - all the staff from the greeters to the chamber maids to the bartenders were smiley and professional and seemed happy to be there.

The technology was the only slight negative for me. Check in was seamless and the moodpad was easy and fun to use, but I couldn't watch the film I wanted to watch and the radio kept defaulting to Radio 1 (my idea of hell), The technology in the room had to be 'deep' reset by reception twice. All the problems were dealt with charmingly by very apologetic staff.

I would recommend CitizenM Bankside. The location is extremely good for visiting central London, it's great value for the city and it'll leave you with a smile on your face.

Room Tip: Choose a 5th floor Southwark view room if you can.

The hotel had only been open for 2 weeks.

Really attentive and friendly staff. A fun contemporary environment. The Samsung Tablets in the room were fun and easy to use. Free movies and Internet - the latter wasn't fast enough to stream a movie smoothly but fine for email etc.

Not a huge room but a very comfortable king size bed. The public area downstairs is designed as a palve to hang out.

We stayed for five nights. The rooms were great - there are manual controls as well as the tablet! Bus to Waterloo just outside and trains stations very close. M&S, Just food across the road and a few nice restaurants.

It did bother me that the fire alarm went off at 7 am one morning and when we went downstairs the duty manager (?) mumbled an apology, but he didn't seem to know what he or the staff should have been doing. The alarm was apparently investigated, but ....

The staff at reception, though friendly on the whole, was not able to assist with simple touristy information or answer questions that you would normally ask hotel reception. (For starters - no maps or any other information available when we checked in).

On the whole, very good but missing the Welcome to my city, my country! in this could be anywhere hotel.

Hi "thehorrorthehorror",

Thanks for sharing your experience here on Trip Advisor. I'm happy you enjoyed your stay in overall but equally disappointed we didn't live up to your expectations.

I am deeply sorry that you were disturbed during your stay within the hotel by the sounding of the fire alarm. Unfortunately this was the direct result of the actions of a guest in their room. I am disappointed that you did not feel re-assured by the team here at the hotel. We have a clear policy to investigate the source of the alarm and evacuate the building simultaneously. Guests are informed of the evacuation policy within their rooms and all fire exits and stairways are clearly labelled. The advice from the fire brigade in the UK is for staff to evacuate the building along with guests, only stopping to assist guests as they go. The exception to this is where we have guests with disabilities that would prevent them from using the stairs, since the lifts are blocked in the event of fire. We keep a record of such guests and provisions are made in stair wells as a haven from fire but also with emergency call points so we can communicate clearly with them. Team members were dispatched to the front of the property to prevent access but also to the assembly point to re-assure guests that did indeed evacuate the building fully. The fact that it was a false alarm was ascertained very quickly, the sirens silenced and the building returned to normal as soon as possible. In fact the speed of the actions meant that no one ever reached the fire assembly point. I would like to assure you the team are well briefed on what to do in the event of a fire alarm but I am sorry if it appeared that the team were unclear as to what was happening and clearly we failed to offer you the reassurance and suitable apology for the inconvenience and shock of the fire alarms sounding. Your feedback is extremely important to us and I will be sure to share it with the team, reflecting and revising our approach, in line with health and safety policy to prevent such a re-occurrence.

We have made city maps available at the front desk. These have proved extremely popular and we are currently waiting for a re-print of the maps. We deliberately don’t carry a huge array of touristy information. Different travellers have different needs; we are getting an increasingly good understanding of these at citizenM London Bankside and are fine tuning our offering accordingly. Nowadays the best source of information is available to visitors on the web and all our Ambassadors are always willing to assist in any research a guest may require during their stay in London whether that be using our free wifi or on our i-macs placed in the living rooms for this exact purpose.

citizenM London Bankide has been open for about a month and we are proud of the satisfaction achieved so far. On the other hand, we clearly understand that as a new hotel, there are few bits of fine tuning to be worked out. I hope you will give us another chance so that we can prove you that citizenM does justice to the Bankside location. If you would like sharing more details so that we can improve ourselves, please, feel free writing me directly via citizenMatt@citizenM.com.

Wish you safe travels.

All the best,
citizenMatt

First impressions walking into the lobby is "wow" !!! You cannot help smiling at scanning your eyes round the wonderful book collection and quirky things all around. Self check in is easy ,however staff are on hand to help. There is no restaurant as such - more like an up modern deli bar- if u don't have and iPad there are a few available just to pick up and use. The rooms however are compact plasma screen tv Samsung tablet which controls it along with the "mood lighting ' blinds and curtains.shower and toilet are located in the bedroom with an opage high quality surround ( wouldn't be recommend to stay with someone u didn't know very well! )It's a very funky place close walking into London and tubes near by.No tea or coffee or water supplied and to iron your clothes,an ironing room is provide .very reasonable for London and I hope they keep their standards up as all staff were friendly and funky themselves . I would def stay here again a as the atmosphere is one of relaxition.M and s just across the road and also funky pizza/ pasta restaurant which serves beautiful food ! Well done guys!!!

Really enjoyed our stay here. This place is achingly stylish and has so many modern features it doesn't compare to most hotels. Beautiful lobby and lounge areas. Staff friendly and helpful. Our room was on the 4th floor overlooking the central courtyard. Very quiet and clean with fantastic big bed and rain shower. The room is controlled by a Samsung tablet, everything from mood light, tv, internet and blinds. No iron but there is a communal ironing room on each floor. Toy rabbit thing in the room was a nice touch but seemed a little out of place as this is not really a family friendly hotel.
I would give a 5 star rating if it weren't for the lack of tea/coffee facilities in room. I consider it essential to have a cuppa when I arrive and especially first thing in the morning. Here you have to get dressed and go down to the restaurant for a hot drink, shame really.
Apart from that, I would definitely recommend to anyone needing 1 or 2 nights in London. For anything longer, a more traditional hotel might be advised.
