“TRENDY PLACE IN SOUTHBANK”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

CitizenM is a new and trendy boutique hotel. Once you enter the lobby, you are greeted by Andy Warhol, that's the poster on the wall. It's like he is staring at you. A staff greets you and show you how to check in digitally. The lobby is furnished with modern furniture with book shelves, couches etc. Next to it is a work place where one can work, read, draw or whatever one likes. There are several computer stations which are free for guests. wifi is available everywhere and is also free. In the room, however, there is no kettle for making coffee/tea which is usual in British hotels. The alarm is extremely sensitive. Once it sounds when someone was drying her hair near the alarm.

CitizenM is not for everybody, I definitely don't see my parents staying here. But that being said, I like the fact that its quite hep, modern and very technology friendly. Rooms are a bit on the small size though, smaller than comparably priced London hotels. The bed is very comfortable, internet connectivity solid and the TV has everything you need. It does take some time to get used to the tablet that controls everything in the room but once you get the hang of it, its quite easy.

The hotel breakfast is a bit on the expensive side but but you can always pick up something from the Tesco Express just around the corner. Southwark station is also less than 10 mins walk away, so quite easy connectivity to the rest of London.

I would happily stay here again. And before I forget, the front desk staff was outstanding!

My company recently moved offices to the Bankside area of London and I made my first visit there this week. On recommendation of several folks I booked two nights at the CitizenM. It's probably not for everybody, but if you want a great rate on a clean room with a hip vibe in a really cool neighborhood this is one to try.

The concept of small rooms with nice common spaces and 24-hr pantry has made CitizenM a growing chain. It's not a family place, and even two people in these rooms would be quite tight but for basic business travel this is one of the best I've seen.

I travel to London frequently on business and usually stay in the Kensington area, and really fancied a change so decided to try this hotel on the basis of the TA reviews.....and I am pleased I did.

The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from London Bridge station and is situated very close to both the Tate Modern and Globe theatre. Access to the millennium bridge is also within a few minutes walk to take you over the river if you want to. The area is safe and busy until late at night.

There is a Marks and Spencer's food hall directly opposite and a number of cafes and restaurants nearby....although the busiest bar in the immediate area is the CitizenM bar in the hotel.

The lobby/restaurant/bar area is all open plan (and has a great atmosphere) and check in is by flat screens rather than a traditional check in desk...very smooth and fast. The rooms are either inward facing over a central courtyard or external overlooking busy roads. The external rooms are a bit noisy as you would expect for central London.

The rooms are very small but beautifully formed, with an enormous bed, high tech lighting and sounds systems etc. The blackout blinds are very good. However, I really did not like the fact that there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, you have to go down to the 24 hour restaurant area to get one....not good. There is also no iron in the room and no room service....also not good for me. However, free movies, phone calls and wifi are included in the room rate, as well as free newspapers. I would happily give up some of this tech kit for a kettle and an iron the room!

The staff are very friendly and the overall vibe of the hotel is relaxed and friendly, I really liked it....particularly the busy bar in the evening.

I would recommend to younger couples and groups of friends.

This hotel seemed like something out of the Stanley Kubrick movie - the rooms are small and modular in construction, with the same material on the floor as on the ceiling (good for zero gravity situations) and are mostly white with space-age lighting. While there is not yet voice control, every element of the spacey rooms is controlled by a computer whose input is a Samsung tablet - from lighting, to a/c to TV.

Admittedly, it's the first time I have stayed in a hotel with a wall-to-wall bed - (seemingly a "California King" sized bed) which was comfy but just emphasized how narrow the room was.

It's a nice hotel for a romantic weekend in bed, but not a room where you should expect to entertain guests or get some work done. That said, the downstairs bar seemed to be filled with a young, attractive crowd in the middle of the week. Strangely, there was also no room service, but possibly because there isn't much space in the rooms to eat it. Breakfast was a disappointment, especially considering what it cost. I have had better breakfasts at pubs for cheaper. I suggest they go across town to "The Wesley" and check out their breakfast to see what they should aspire to.

I'd stay here again if I was in the neighborhood and the price was right, but not sure I'd go out of my way to come back.

Room Tip: Courtyard facing rooms are quieter.

Stayed for 3 nights over the weekend. Hotel is exactly what it says it is : it's design all over.
Rooms are rather small but have everything you need. XL Kingsize bed. Not really much room to relax though...but then you have the groundfloor bar / lobby / restaurant where you can rest and have a drink (or more).

Breakfast is simple but good. Staff friendly and helpfull.

Room Tip: Wouldn't know what room to recommend, they're all the same. Perhaps a room facing the backya...

Stayed here on the weekend, a kid free day/night in London. The reviews on TA Looked good, and the style of the place appealed to us.
We were not let down when we arrived. Its a great feel to the place, with friendly staff, and a nice informal check in.
The lobby/bar area is probably the best I have ever seen in a hotel, its simply a great space.
The rooms are small yes, but very well done. The hi tech touch is also a neat way of adding interest, but we did experience some issues with heating which took the edge off the night. Having said that the way the hotel have dealt with it is what leads me to the title of the review. Once we have been back again, and if the glitch was a one off, then yes this will become our fave hotel.
Fingers crossed.

Room Tip: Road side room was noisey at times, but hey its next to a road!
