I stayed here for a week, the last week of June, myself and a 14 year-old child. I've never stayed in a hotel with friendlier staff! There is no "front desk," but rather two "podiums" in the tiny lobby, sometimes there was a person at each, sometimes only one podium was staffed. When only one person was staffing the lobby, it meant there was occasionally a wait to speak to that staff person. The restaurant is just off the lobby, we never ate dinner there, but did eat breakfast there every morning. The breakfast buffet is very ample, hot and cold foods, and priced at 9.75 pounds - and one child can eat free for each paying adult! The rooms are very clean and comfortable, although it's a "no frills" hotel - no bar soap, shampoo, lotion, etc - instead there is a hair & body gel dispenser in the shower (though no washcloths can be had from housekeeping - bring a pouf!) Location is very convenient - an easy 8-10 minute walk to the Southwark (pronounced "Suthirk") underground station, and an 8-10 minute walk in the other direction to the Tate Modern and Globe Theatre on the riverfront, where the Millenium Bridge goes across the river to St. Paul's. We slept very soundly, we heard no noise at all from the hotel or the street. A large convenience store is right next door, actually a mini-grocery store, also has wine, very convenient - and a decent ATM is next door to that. Don't expect concierge-type services, the staff was extremely congenial, but not knowledgeable about day trips outside London, or restaurant recommendations. I would definitely stay here again, it's clean, comfortable, convenient, and a good price for London - just remember it's a budget (not full-service) hotel.More
