Owner description: The RAF Benevolent Fund is proud and privileged to be the custodian of the new Bomber Command Memorial in central London. The memorial has been built to be modern, yet classical, in Portland stone. At its heart are the bronze sculptures of a Bomber Command aircrew. Within the memorial, the space is open to the sky with an opening designed to allow light to fall directly onto sculptures of the aircrew.

Well worth a visit and recommend a walk through Green Park weather permitting. Take your time and go through the park to see Buckingham Palace on the opposite side. Then a walk up the Mall to Horse-guards Parade. When there look to the right to see the little house at the top of St James Park.

I had the honour to be present when this incredible memorial was unveiled by Her Majesty the Queen in 2012, but visited it for the first time yesterday.
I found it a very moving experience as my late father flew 30 missions in the Lancaster Bomber as a mid upper gunner, and to see the seven crew members portrayed, made me think of him as a nineteen year old, when he started his active service.
The memorial was being visited by people of different ages, who all showed the respect those who lost their lives fully deserved.
It is such a shame that this magnificent memorial was not erected many years ago, so that people like my late father, could have known their bravery and courage was appreciated by later generations.

Although this memorial is in a busy location, it is a very fitting tribute to all of the airmen who served in the war. Well worth a look. Read the inscriptions on the walls of the memorial.

Finally we have a fitting tribute to the thousands of air crew that gave their lives in the struggle agains Hitler's Germany.

The characters portrayed on the monument are beautifully scupted, each with his own indelible character stamped on the metal.

A great memorial, rare to see them built this way these days. Very impressive statues and nice surroundings in the park.
