“Great stay for London”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

Easy to get to by car, very close to DLR a station for travelling into central London, free parking, would stay again, but noise from other doors closing can keep you awake if you are a light sleeper.

Arrived at the hotel around 11am on new years eve. There was plenty of parking and staff were happy for us to leave our car there while we went into central London. The hotel is a new build located next to the Royal Albert tube station on the DLR route. It took about 40 minutes to get to Oxford Circus on the tube.
We checked into our room before heading back into London for the fireworks. The room was of a good size and very clean. The shower was powerful and the bed comfortable. There was a kettle and reception were happy to provide us with extra coffee and milk. They also gave us some wine glasses when we asked. We had a corner room so had two large windows. Despite being next to a road, railway and airport there was very little noise.
Unfortunately the breakfast was pour. I went and got a plate of hot food however had to wait 5 minutes for the cutlery to be refilled so I had something to eat it with. My tomato was not even hot, I don't think it had been cooked. I then went for a coffee but there were no mugs. I then went for a yoghurt but there was just the outer cardboard packaging in their place. So I gave up.
Due to the good value of the rooms I gave this place four stars as they couldn't be faulted. The staff were friendly but please sort out the breakfast!

We are pleased to learn you found our staff to be friendly and our rooms to be of good value NattyB, however we are truly sorry to learn of the problems you experienced in our Bar Café. Our bar café staff are fully trained on how to prepare food to a great standard and to ensure that all items are readily available and that all cutlery has been replenished so it is regrettable to learn that this did not happen on this occasion. We will be sure to pass on your comments to the hotel staff so that they can be aware of the improvements which need to be made. Thank you for your feedback.

Our first time at this Travelodge and it will not be the last. Fantastic! Lovely clean new build hotel. Loved the new style rooms and the beds - so comfy. Have previously chosen the 'lodge at City Airport. However, the new Excel hotel beats it hands down. Clearly as a new build it has the more modern advantage but also way closer to the DLR than the City Airport site - which you can see across the way! Plenty of parking. Inside it's all clean and fresh. Only very slight negative would be that the bar area is a bit soul-less but really not a big deal! It's simple - if you want a great hotel at a good price and within 30 mins from Central London on the DLR then BOOK IT!

lack of staff..nobody came to clean the rooms after the first day. This was mentioned but no action was taken. Lady who came at the end said as she had a day off the other person who covered may have missed it.
Nobody at reception.

Stayed here when we were attending a concert at the O2 and picked it on price not really expecting too much. But is is a newly refurbished Travelodge with very clean and comfortable rooms and bathroom. It has free parking unlike nearby hotels and is 5 minutes walk from the DLR station and you can be at the O2 or Canary Warf in no time. The notice board in reception details the local bus and tube/ DLR connections so it is really easy to get around. It is quiet despite London City airport close by. We've already booked when we are next at a concert.

It was a lovely Travelodge - nice, big, clean rooms with a bar and all you can eat breakfast (wasn't the best breakfast ever but it was ok).
Good location, very close to the Royal Albert DLR station, and free parking which is becoming increasingly difficult to find!
However, we had a family room booked for 3 adults and when we arrived (only 2 of us in the end), they hadn't left any bedding for the pull out bed so we had to go back down to reception to ask for some (which was indeed brought up while we were out) - although when I asked for it the man on reception asked me "are you using the pull out"? Er.....would I be asking for bedding for it if I wasn't!? Also, it wasn't until the next morning when I was having a shower that we realised they'd only left 1 set of towels. This was again rectified that day while we were out, when they left 3 sets! Would definitely stay here again though.
