Nice experience! After seeing the bridge unrolling, rolling and unrolling again, the staff gave us a book about the bridge with great pictures. It only happens once a week: Fridays at noon.

“Great for Design & Architecture Fans”
Reviewed 5 July 2013 via mobile

We arrived and the footbridge was down. At 12 noon two men with yellow jackets hooked up the bridge control harness, curled it up, paused for some photos, then uncurled it again, then did it all again. This bridge is by the same firm that designed the 2012 London Olympic Cauldron. Our two teenage boys were loving it - they are both interested in how things are made.

“Fantastic piece of Heatherwick architecture!”
Reviewed 19 March 2013

I've been to see this bridge on a few occasions. It opens on Friday's at mid-day and is just a quick event, but worth making a detour for. Can be a bit tricky to locate (Google maps work perfectly), so be sure to arrive early.

The boats on the canal are also quite interesting and make for a pleasant walk. But don't be tempted to stay and eat locally, Paddington itself is rather down-at-heel and despite a few attempts, I'm yet to be impressed by the local restaurants. Much better to eat elsewhere in London.
