“Excellent staff but horrendous food”
Reviewed 5 February 2014

I went to this pub with my girlfriend before seeing the Lion King in the theatre next door. We went in for lunch and a drink. We were immediately welcomed by some very friendly staff upstairs who chatted to us about the show and made us feel very welcome. The food menu was impressive and cheap, especially for London. I suspect however, that I know why the food was cheap... it was awful! I had the barbecue burger with chips. The burger appeared to be a slap of undercooked factory reject meat which closely resembled something I'd think twice about giving my dog. It was almost plastic in texture. I took one bite (before looking inside it) and left it, using the bun and cheese to make a chip sandwich.
The Mrs had lasagne which was average. The presentation was fine with a nice little salad and some garlic ciabatta but the lasagne was mostly cheese sauce which was slimy and what little filling it had was flavourless muck.

To conclude: Great pub for pre-theatre drinks and friendly staff, but they need to have a serious think about their abominable food.

“A local on The Strand”
Reviewed 25 January 2014

This is a really friendly pub situated on The Strand but with the feel of your local back home. Staff were very welcoming and willing to chat about the forthcoming New Year's Eve celebrations. Lovely old panelled walls with little alcoves for anyone involved in a clandestine meeting! Dining room upstairs for the usual pub grub and a small open area just off the main ground floor bar for the naughty smokers. Right in the heart of London and Sam Smith's Yorkshire bitter only £2.90 a pint. Luxury! :-)

“pub food”
Reviewed 14 December 2013

went for lunch 2 days ago. The first thing I will say is staff excellent, friendly, polite and helpful. Pub very clean food basic steak and ale pie ok, dad had suet pudding and had to send back as suet pastry was like concrete and obviously not fared well in a microwave. Apart from this prices ok for a pub on the strand and staff do make a difference.

“Nice atmosphere with terrible staff”
Reviewed 20 November 2013 via mobile

Overall this is a nice little gem in the heart of London, with a nice feel and good beer prices. But don't expect anything special if you're hungry and watch out for the overly aggressive staff. They will leave you feeling uncomfortable and like you accidentally walked into a scummy pub in slough.

“Charming little place with good brews”
Reviewed 28 October 2013 via mobile

The cosy, boxy booths are ideal for a good conversation over a good collection of brews. We visited on a Sunday and they were not serving any food at all.
We had a few bitters and ciders, and paired them with some crisps for munchies. Easy on the pocket, not too crowded, and a dart board if you feel like it.
