We stayed in Ibis Blackfriars for 1 night in late December. The hotel is in a decent location, well connected to the underground and other transport, and it's definitely popular, being packed out on the night we stayed.

The room we stayed in was fine - clean and functional and reasonably spacious. The bathroom and shower was good and all worked well. The bed was comfortable with decent linen.

Breakfast was good, the buffet being the same at other London Ibis hotels I've stayed in, with a decent selection of "full English" breakfast items and other more healthy options also. Food was topped up efficiently as the huge number of breakfast diners worked through it. One problem at breakfast though was that we were sitting directly under an air conditioning vent which runs all the way along one wall. This was blasting icy cold air onto us and our food, which meant it got cold before we'd finished our plate. We eventually moved (we couldn't at first as there were no other seats available), but needless to say being affected by cold air-con is not what you expect in the middle of British winter.

There were a couple of other rather odd problems with the service at the hotel though. First off, when going down for breakfast, we had to wait for ages for a lift. Seems a strange thing to complain about, but it literally took about 20 minutes, with 2 of the 4 lifts not moving at all. We eventually walked round the corner and took another lift, which we had no idea was actually a service lift, so we ended up lost in the kitchens and other back rooms of the hotel until someone walked through and showed us the way through to the breakfast room. There seems to be a problem with the lift system, and also they need to clearly indicate if some lifts are actually service lifts and not meant to be used by guests.

Also in the middle of the morning while we were preparing to check out the fire alarm went off, including a (recorded) announcement that there was a fire in the building. This naturally caused some panic and we started rushing to evacuate. The alarm then stopped so we asked a member of staff if there was a fire - we were then informed that it was just a test which was carried out every Monday. In that case, why on earth weren't we (and the other guests) informed of this? It made our check out process a lot more stressful than it needed to be.

Overall, these niggles aside, Ibis Blackfriars is a decent enough hotel. But Ibis Euston, not far away, is a bit better I think.

I would like to thank you very much for having taken the time to leave here such a detailed feedback following your stay in our hotel. I have taken note of the various valuable points you mentioned and felt did not meet your expectations. I am taking this opportunity to add that our fire alarm is indeed tested every Monday at 11 AM. I was sincerely sorry to read that you did not come across the sign which is displayed at our reception desk ; I can really understand how surprising this can be. I hope you have none the less enjoy your stay in London. Thank you once again !

My wife and I stay in this hotel for 3 nights in December 2013 for celebrating the New Year’s eve in this amazing city.

The hotel is very close to the underground (1 minute walk to Soutwark station) and a lot of tourist attraction. The room (928) were small but more than enough room for two people. There is nothing to complain about the cleaning and the bed was very comfortable (maybe the best bed in any hotel I have visited so far!)

The staff is really nice and very helpful. There are free wifi throughout (limited speed but it’s possible to pay for “unlimited” speed). Beautiful and modern on site bar and restaurant (see my attached photos) with 24/7 meal and drinks menu.

Breakfast in the restaurant was abundant with plenty of choice

All in all a pleasant stay in a nice hotel.

This hotel is good value for money!

Regards
Svein-Magne Tunli from Bergen, Norway.

We stayed here for New Years Eve, and couldn't have been happier with the hotel. Firstly, it was in a great location, it is a stones through away from Southwark tube station and was about a 15 minute walk to the Embankment for the fireworks.

The hotel itself is very clean and well looked after. The lobby/bar/restaurant area is very nice, it is comfortable and relaxing - definitely much better than my experiences staying budget chains such as Travelodge. On check in the staff were extremely friendly and helpful - they explained how to get to our room and answered any of the questions that we had.

Our room was similar to our experiences of the entrance area - it was extremely clean and well maintained. The en-suite was spotless and the room - including the bedding looked brand new. On New Years Day, we enjoyed breakfast in the hotel which was fantastic! The choice is brilliant and what we both had was very tasty.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, and will definitely be booking for NYE this year! Look no further if you want an enjoyable hotel stay in London!
