Travelodge London Bethnal Green
Ranked #495 of 1,075 Hotels in London
Reviewed 1 December 2013

Bethnal Green is not one of those "hip and happening" London neighborhoods. It's in the East End, a good twenty minute Tube ride from shopping and theatre meccas like Covent Garden and Knightsbridge. The neighborhood is mostly a working-class mix of Middle Eastern immigrants and students. It's like dozens of outlying London neighborhoods: mostly quiet, and mostly overlooked by the tourists.

Which is part of the appeal of the Bethnal Green Travelodge. While it's a little bit hard to find (the reception desk is on the second floor, and the entrance is tucked into a side street), the hotel is a two minute walk from the Bethnal Green tube station. The rooms are simple, but very clean and very well-maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful.

And since you're staying in out of the way Bethnal Green, your room will cost you less than a third of what you'd pay in a more upscale part of town.

It's a great little hotel, at a great price.

This hotel wasn't our first choice as we were hoping to stay at Stratford but we were pleasantly surprised.
Very polite staff.
Family room very comfortable and warm.
Near to tube station and a short tube ride to the west end and central London.
Will definitely stay again.

I stayed in this hotel at the beginning of November. It's still new and it's very close to the Bethnal Green tube station. Close to the hotel there's a Sainsbury open from 6 to 24 and a Pizza Hut that makes deliveries. Rooms are really essential but the bed is good, are cleant and the space is enough. Unluckily there's no free wireless. People at the reception is really kind and the room (where you can have breakfast) is big and with free wireless.
I paid 135GBP for nights booking it in March and I'm sure I wouldn't have found a better quality/price ratio

You know what to expect with a Travelodge - it will be cheaper than other hotels, it won't be anything fancy but it should have all the basics covered. That's exactly what we got in Bethnal Green.

The room was clean and tidy, the bed was very comfortable and there was enough space, although it wasn't huge. The staff were very friendly and efficient (we didn't have all that much contact with them, but only because everything was absolutely fine). Although we were near to a fairly large railway, with the window closed and the extra window-like screen pulled shut we could barely hear the trains and had no trouble sleeping at all.

I would definitely recommend this Travelodge over the other London ones we have stayed in previously (Covent Garden and King's Cross). It was the quietest, the nicest and for being a little further from the centre it was £100 cheaper than the other options for our three nights. Ironically, it was also the best situated - 2 minutes' walk to Bethnal Green underground station, ideal for tourists using the tube to get to the sights.

Room Tip: Other people are complaining about noise from the railway - we stayed in room 110 on the North side...

Stayed here last weekend (15th-17th Nov) for a mini-break with my partner to do a 'touristy' experience of London. The London part of the break was top-billing and did not let down. However, the same could not be said for this Travelodge. To their credit, the room, reception girls and evening guys were great (I believe their names were Will and Vikrum?) and we did have a very good nights sleep.

It was during the Sunday breakfast service that our experience soured, by our shocking treatment by a female member of staff during service (older staff member wearing glasses). When going up to get some food from the buffet bar, we noticed that some food was running low and we decided to helpfully point it out to the female member of staff who instantly snapped, barking back at us saying "Give me a minute" Yes, I heard, give me a minute" and stormed off. We were left gobsmacked! After that, I assume after over-hearing, Vikrum (he must have had a long shift!) who was a few tables away helping a family, came over to apologise and refunded the cost of our breakfast. While the apology and complimentary breakfast was greatly appreciated, our treatment did spoil what had been so far, a nice relaxing weekend.

At the price we paid, I would not return and would advice friends and family against doing so. However, if I ever got a deal like you sometimes do with Travelodge promotions, I would perhaps be willing to give this hotel a second chance.

My partner and I stayed for 3 nights at this hotel and we really cannot complain about anything. The location is spot on, only a 2 minute walk to the Central underground line which is about a 15-20 minute ride to the city centre.
The room was very clean and tidy and the room was made everyday whilst we were there. We were at the front of the hotel and overlooking the main road. The windows have very good glazing because the only thing we heard was an emergency servcies siren every so often...even that wasn't loud. Cannot comment on the trains at the back but I cannot see them being that loud with the windows closed.
Did not have any meals at the hotel but the drink service was good and the seating area in the reception was big and relaxing with two TV's.
On the street are cafe's, takeaways and places to drink around the corner.
Overall, three thoroughly enjoyable nights sleep and would recommend. Feel free to ask any questions :)

This Travelodge is relatively new so everything is still fresh and working. The beds are particularly an upgrade from the ones at other Travelodges I have used in the recent past. One stop from Liverpool street on the Central Line this hotel is well positioned for easy access to the City and West End. Have started to use this particular Travelodge quite a lot recently because if you book ahead you can get some great rates. Will continue to return.
