Lovely place to while away an hour or 2 with the kids after a picnic.. lots of greenery and open fields - on a day like today weather wise couldn't fault it.

Saw goats, ponies, horses and deers - the chickens were sealed off (avarian flu) but as we only had an hour it worked out fine and as it's free you can not fault it.

If you're in the area or near by and the weathers on your side it's definitely worth a visit!

They have ducks, pigs, goats, chickens, deer, sheep, peacocks and horses. I take my daughter a lot and she loves it. It has plenty of green space for picnics etc and is close to Marion park and charlton park both are fun parks.

This lovely southern part of the park (Maryon Park is directly to the north of it) contains interesting areas of woodland, scrub and grassland. The path which enters from the south follows a small stream down a shady valley under trees. There are some rare plants here typical of neutral grassland including marsh foxtail, sweet vernal grass with fools watercress in the ditch and pendulous sedge. The park broadens out as you walk northwards and consists of a central ridge between two valleys with a stream running along their length.

It's a super place to take children as it contains a small animal enclosure with ducks, chickens, goats, sheep and horses. There is also a deer enclosure - the fawns are a delight in the springtime. There is a guided tour on Wednesdays and children can handle some of the animals which are not on display but who live in the bothy.

It's possible to experience a wide variety of habitats in a comparatively small area and for young scientists and geographers it is a real gem.

Recently, some areas have been cleared of brambles and opened up and daffodils planted. These are pretty but rather take away from the natural unimproved landscape which has been here from time immemorial and originally formed part of Hanging Wood which stretched from Woolwich to Charlton and which provided shelter for highwaymen.

There are a number of benches scattered about the park and a pleasant space near the stream if you wanted to picnic. Otherwise take a short stroll over Charlton Road to Charlton Park and enjoy an excellent lunch in the café in the Park.
