“Good for families and casual dining”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

Our extended family group came for dinner based on a desire not to have to dress for dinner and a special feature on lobster. We were comfortably seated. Conversation was easy and the kitchen was obliging with a finicky youngster. Though not outstanding everything was tasty, to order and it was a very pleasant experience. Located in Shepherd's Market within easy walking of many Hyde Park Corner hotels.

“favorite lunch spot in the area”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

There are so many great restaurants in Mayfair but this is my favorite ...even for an informal client meeting. It is a little pricey for lunch, so I cannot go as frequently as I would like. Other reviewers have commented on the hamburgers and I have to agree. But, their pasta dishes are also fantastic as are some of their specialty sandwiches. I highly recommend this little gem to both tourists and locals alike. Don't expect plush accommodations (wooden tables/wooden chairs) and don't expect bargain eats...but, do expect fresh, traditionally prepared, well portioned food. You will rave to your friends at home that you've found this little special place in a quaint part of London.

Also, they permit smoking at the outside tables which is a real treat for those who are made to feel like lepers because they enjoy a cigarette after a meal or coffee.

They close after the lunch trade.

“surprisingly decent”
Reviewed 26 July 2013

Little restaurant on Sheps Market Square in Mayfair. Looks like a fast food takeaway but they have outside tables and its actually a devent alternative if you cant get seating or need to wait too long for a table at the Burger and Lobster round the corner that everybody seems to want to go to. They have burger and lobster, too, who would have guessed.

“Small and quaint. Good food, great coffee.”
Reviewed 13 July 2013

This is a quaint, tiny restaurant is located in quaint, tiny Shepherds Market. The Market is a magical corner of Mayfair which looks and feels as if it has been transplanted from a small country town.

Tables are small and because of limited space it can feel a little cramped. Food here is good, especially breakfasts, and the coffee is historic, but service can be slow and sometimes they get orders wrong--maybe because of a language difficulty.

If Trip Advisor had a ''Good'' category between ''Average'' and ''Very Good'' I would award the Old Express Good, but since I don't have that option I shall have to rate it Average.

One point to bear in mind: The restaurant frequently has an open front so can be rather draughty. Not much of a problem at breakfast or lunch, but dinner might not be as cosy as you would like.

“Great Burgers in Mayfair”
Reviewed 21 May 2013

This small hole in the wall, located in the busy Shepherd’s Market complex has a simple but pleasing menu. Their hamburgers are huge, their tables are small, and their service is prompt and efficient. Don’t come expecting anything fancy, but if you want to have a quick satisfying meal at the right price, stop here on the way between shopping at Piccadilly and Regent St.
