“The Union Jack Club”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

I stayed here in January of this year with my brother and family from Germany. This is not a public hotel but my brother was in the armed forces so is welcome to stay here with members of his family. I must say, I was very impressed. The atmosphere was wonderful and everything anyone required was totally to hand. From arriving, the reception was very efficient and the hotel is located in a very good location in London with easy access to all public facilities and the sights of London. The food was simply excellent and not very expensive, the rooms were clean and well kept and various rooms had an older quality feel. The service was excellent with ery friendly staff and I cannot wait to stay here again. Great place......

We had Dinner at the Restaurant there are plenty of tables and the service was very good. The food was good with quite a wide selection of dishes. It was nice to have a choice of fish dishes which all sounded quite tempting. My only criticism was that they were a bit skinny on the vegetable portions. My sautéed potatoes were much too small to go with a nice sized piece of chicken. The wine was also rather pricey. I will be dining here again and on the whole it is good value for money.

Stayed at the UJC last week with my son to see a West End show. The room was very clean and comfortable. The accommodation is available to ex-military and members of associated organisations.. They boast about the best breakfast in London, and I agree with that! Prices in the restaurant and the bar are very competitive - ( superb all you can eat breakfast for £8).

Room Tip: Waterloo station is just across the road from UJC, so expect noise during the night. I have always h...

Stayed the UJC for the first time in July 2013. I found this to be a very good hotel with everything one might expect in a far more expensive establishment. Our double room was a reasonable size with en suite facilities. All the usual bits were provided in the bathroom/toilet. In the room tea and coffee making requisites were provided, as was a hair dryer.

The location could hardly have been better. Literally 50 yards from the front entrance to Waterloo Station, making both surface and underground lines immediately available. I did not use any of the buses but needless to say there was an almost continuous stream of them passing by outside the station. Westminster Abbey, House of Commons, Whitehall, the Palace and Trafalgar Square are within walking distance of almost everyone. We paid £95 per night for a double room with en suite, which is the members price. If you are ex service personnel it is well worth getting membership as the temporary membership price is £122 per night. Even if you stay only one night, you save money. Why wouldn't one join if you qualify.

The lifts were sufficiently fast and there was never too long to wait for their arrival. Check in was fast and friendly. The restaurant was first class. The menu is a little limited but big enough to satisfy most ex servicemen and their ladies. Prices in the restaurant are very reasonable for the excellent quality food served. Breakfast @£8 a head is as good as anything you get in London, its an eat all you want format, which certainly suited me. Bar prices are as might now expect, very hard to beat anywhere in London. Or anywhere else in Britain come to that.

Faults......I could only find one. We stayed during a spell of very hot weather in July with temperature reaching 33 degrees C. Although the public areas are air conned, the rooms are not. Our room was very warm, opening the two windows did help (a lot) but it did mean having the window open during the night. Being on the 13th floor, security was not a problem but the noise was. Emergency vehicle sirens were frequent as was the din made by "revellers" (drunks)
With windows closed the noise ceased to be an issue. For "normal" British weather non of this is a problem.

You will be hard pressed to find a hotel of this quality, at this price anywhere else in London.

I am a single guy in his 30s traveling alone and i needed a room. Simply this place is great. Very well located, very well priced. The room was very clean, i had my own bathroom, the staff were really polite and even when i mixed up a booking they worked around me.

The shower was about 3' by 3' by 7' and i am a fairly big guy so a bit of a squeeze (dont drop the soap) Then again i was hardly there to dance in it, so it isnt a biggy. Really this place is brilliant. The history, photos, plaques, bar, dining area, look the list goes on. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Not really, get your own bathroom perhaps but thats about it.

I stayed in the UJ Club for the first time in July 2013, in a single occupancy room. I was slightly apprehensive before arriving due to the military 'club' nature of the hotel, however there was no need for the apprehension.

Check in was quick and easy, the hotel was clean and well maintained, and my room was immaculate. Although I did not have my own bathroom, the shared shower facilities are clean and tidy. The room did have a sink, tv and free wifi, but the best surrise was the view from my 19th floor window.

If arriving by train to Waterloo, make sure you exit the station from the exit closest to the Tube entrance - I left by the station approach road and had to walk right around the station!

My wife and I stayed there on a Monday night. The hotel was in a great location, right across the street from Waterloo Station. The rooms are very clean and the hotel staff was extremely friendly. We also have breakfast in the morning the price wasn't that bad. I would definitely stay there again even with the price being comparable to other hotels in London.
