“A Fine Indian Cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2013

This is my second visit to this small but comfortable restaurant. Apart from traditional and vegetarian dishes and Tandoori or Balti specialities, I would recommend the house specials such as - Laal Maas, Jheenga Karahi - king prawns cooked in ginger, onion and a variety of freshly ground herbs and spices, Lamb Genghis Buna is a must for lover of hot sauces and Badak Chettinad - Duck cooked with spicy tomato & coconut masala. Meal prices is reasonable and the owner and his staffs are very friendly.

“Great Indian food affordable prices Central London (and delivery)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 May 2013

Shikara is one of our favourites. They do delivery and also take away.

Since we have been quite loyal to Shikara for these past 4 years they really treat us to extra papadoums now and then. No big deal, but we love their papadoums. Some days aren't as good, but we figured out it is up to the cook that day.

We have ordered infinite times from them and have never had a problem. We used to live nearby and we would go to the restaurant instead of ordering, but now we live further and it is a good treat for Friday evenings.

We are not Indian, so we can not judge from an Indian original point of view, but there are many Indians eating there also, which is some sort of and indicator.

Our favourite dishes are Lamb Chops, Lamb pasanda, mixed grilled, mango lassi, papadoums, samosas., rice pilau, garlic naan.. but we are quite basic and not too risky in our choices... once we like a dish we like to keep ordering the same until boredom.... so we have not tried all dishes in the menu.

We have been there twice with kids and the staff are good.

It is true that there is a tendency to be slow in serving tables (delivery is great!)... yes, they can be slow,... but the experience is worth it. Just relax, if you go out for dinner last thing you want is to hurry!

We have never been to lunch but some friends have been and they like it and they are faster!

Good Indian! Shukria!

“Good value and a great place for take your kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2013

Shikara is a small (15 to 20 seats) Indian restaurant that offers tasty food at relatively affordable prices in London.

We dined at this restaurant with 3 teenage boys and it was one of their favourite meals during our vacation in London. The lamb samosa was very nice; the pastry wrapper was thin and crispy and not thick like many other samosas. The onion bhaji wasn't bad although it could have been more crispy.

We ordered a variety of dishes including the murg (chicken) tandoori, lamb biryani and chicken tikka (buffer murg, a house speciality). Everything was seasoned nicely, spicy enough to be authentic but not overpowering.

The service was very attentive and the waiter offered suggestions when we ordered.

The restaurant is a 5 minute walk east from the Gloucester subway station so it is easy to get to.

We would definitely recommend this restaurant and would return.
