I visied this pub very recently on the strength of my Gourmet Diners card, which gave me 2 meals for one. It only had 8 tables but arriving at 3:30pm on a Friday afternoon seemed to timed it well. the Fish & Chips were very good, my partner enjoyed the sausage and mash as it was dressed with the most delicious onion gravy.
Although a cold day The Hour Glass had a roaring fire which provided a delightful ambience.

I usually judge a 'local' pub by the toilets and this can be a factor in whether I eat there - and here is an example of when my system doesn't always ring true to form.
Ok nice friendly welcome - cheerful 'Ozzie' barmaid. The 'Ladies' is really tiny/compact opening tightly from the main bar - with a rickety folding door - a bit tired looking and a bit grubby in places, but had all the stuff you need - clean loo and sink, loo roll and a good drier and it smelled OK of loo cleaner products. When my partner suggested eating there I said no even though I fancied loads on the menu - at the time there was noone else in and so not able to look at the food coming out and the loo had put me off a bit - sorry!

However a couple of hours later we went back there - was remembered by the friendl bar lady and after seeing the kind of diners there and the food we decided to order Cauli/broccoli bake which sadly seems to have lost favour on pub' menus in recent years - but is one of my favourites if it is done well - and my partner had thai fishcakes.

The garlic bread was to die for lovely and light foccacia style - and the bake was piping hot and well grilled to a golden brown- strong cheese- and very sizeable portion. Fishcakes were lovely if a bit too spicy and fries were all good. prices were excellent for that area.

So on our trip out at night we called in for a third time that day - bar manager and the the bar lady were still on duty by then and found this quite funny and it was nice to be remembered...again

Definitley try this pub. A lovely little find. Good range of real ales and all the usual suspects. Will pop in again if in the area again.
