“Beautiful Hotel, Beautiful City!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2014

The Great Northern Hotel is situated next to and part of the famous King's Cross Station (go inside and visit platform 9 and 3/4 and the Harry Potter gift shop!), across the road from St. Pancras Station and with a taxi rink just outside, it's pretty east to get around the city.

You are only a 20 minute walk away from the beautiful Regent's Park (inc ZSL London Zoo), 10 minute walk away from the Charles Dickens Museum and if you walk a further 10 minutes from here you'll find yourself at the incredible British Museum!

Kings Cross offers a lot of bars, pubs and restaurants. Take your pick! There is a restaurant and bar downstairs in the hotel too, aswell as a starbucks, yo sushi and mcdonalds near by!

When we arrived we were shown inside by the doorman who directed us to the reception so we could check in. We were upgraded to the Waynecott room on the fifth floor and were shown there again by the doorman who offered to carry our luggage. You're given a keycard, two if you want, and you need this to get onto your floor and into your room. It's just a swipe and it's easy to use.

The room was amazing. I loved everything about it! Boutique and luxury decorated beautifully with deep purple paint and dark wood panelled walls. Here you have a tv with 70 free movies, audiobooks and super fast wifi. You have a minibar, I was surprised by how cheap it was, stocking things like coke, apple juice, crisps and a box of maltesers. You have 2 complimentary bottles of water and use of the nespresso machine. You have a safe and closet space to hang any clothes. There's a cute little seating area, a nice touch. The bed was firm, the best bed I've ever slept on! The linen and sheets were soft, high quality and very comfortable. Some rooms offer a bath instead of a shower, we wanted a shower and it was great! A beautifully decorated bathroom, clean and crisp with a large walk in shower. Lovely shower gels, shampoos and soaps and little vanity kits including shower cap. They had slippers and fluffy dressing gowns in the closet too.

The morning after my first night Ii was up at 5am and the pantry was being cleaned and restocked by a member of staff. The pantry is genial and I hope they keep it! It's basically a little kitchen, each floor has one and it's where the guests can go anythime day or night to read a newspaper and help themselves to coffee, cake, sweets and biscuits and a cup of tea. When we stayed they had chocolate cake, jelly babies, caramel biscuits, wagon wheels and my favourite, tea pigs! Teapigs are a high quality fairtrade brand of teabag and they are delicious! They had a little assortment of chamomile, feng green tea and breakfast tea. Amazing!

The hotel itself is gorgeous. It's lovely from ground floor to top! The glass lifts and grand staircases with impressive stained glass windows tie modern with historic perfectly. The staff can't do enough for you. Would 100% return and definitely recommend this hotel to anybody travelling to London! I didn't want to leave!!!

Spent one night at the hotel for a London theatre trip and it was a perfect choice.Arriving at Kings Cross it couldn't be better placed and check in was speedy ,friendly and efficient. We were shown to our couchette room number 319 ,which was small but cosy and perfect for a short stay.We immediately took advantage of the pantry which was located at the end of the corridor, although there wasn't any cake there was plenty of snacks and a good choice of tea and coffee. On returning to the hotel late evening we had some lovely cocktails in the GHN bar served by extremely friendly bar staff.Retiring for the evening to a lovely comfortable bed and a great sleep , room very quiet .Woke reasonably early as large window let in plenty of daylight and had a great drenching shower.Overall impression of the hotel superb , not able to fault anything will definitely be top of the list for next London trip.

Room Tip: Our room faced the station way from the road and was very quiet , rooms on the road side may be less...

Thank you for recently staying with us at the Great Northern and posting such a wonderful review. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed your time at the hotel and do hope that I get chance to say hello when you are next in town. Please check out one of our St Pancras facing rooms next time as our amazing sound proofing makes them just as quiet as the Kings Cross facing ones. Thanks again, Anthony.

Great to step off the train and walk across to your hotel. Great feel, beautifully designed rooms and really well maintained. They just need to keep the pantry areas (brilliant idea) well stocked and clean so they're great to walk into at any time of the day. Bar really lively and good atmosphere. The team who have redeveloped this building should be very pleased with what they have created

Thank you for posting a review after your recent stay with us and I'm so pleased to hear our location worked so well for you. Many thanks for your kind words about the hotel and your feedback regarding the pantries - our housekeeping team do check and restock them on a regular basis but I'm afraid that when the homemade cake is gone....it's gone! I do hope that we get chance to welcome you back to the hotel very soon. Best wishes, Anthony.

I stay here regularly now, it is the most stylish and beautiful hotel. Lovely staff, always happy to help, Recently celebrated my birthday there and received a card to my room as well as a complimentary cocktail! I love all of the rooms! I was lucky enough to have a Cubitt room with a bath on my last stay and it was AMAZING. Deepest bath ever, very relaxing after a long haul flight. I would recommend this hotel, its bar and of course Plum and Spilt Milk restaurant to anyone. The Pantry is a fantastic homely touch. I love you GNH!
Oh! and the mini bar is the cheapest i have ever experienced, such a treat.

Room Tip: Cubitt with a bath is amazing but i love the cosiness and colour schemes of the Wainscotts.

Stayed here as part of my 40th birthday celebrations and the hotel is fantastic. Great location, about a ten min walk from Euston and five min walk to the departure lounge for the euro star. The staff are excellent very professional and friendly, the rooms are a bit on the small side but very unique and funky, the hotel bar is very good and great breakfast.

When staying here you also have access to a pantry with hot drinks and little snacks, which is good but could do with some soft drinks eing available. Overall though, the hotel is great and will be recommending.......

Definitely impressed with this hotel! The staff are incredibly welcoming and polite and the rooms are so lovely and unique! The pantry on every floor is lovely feature and has a range of tea, coffee, snacks and freshly made cake. It's also very close to St Pancras and King's Cross so was easy to locate. The only downside is that bed is quite hard and we found it uncomfortable to sleep on but other than that it was a perfect trip and I will definitely be visiting again :)

Sophie, thank you for your very kind words about our team and rooms after your recent stay with us at the Great Northern. Our mattresses are all made by Hypnos and our linen has a 500 thread count, however, I do understand that bed comfort is subjective to personal taste. I am pleased you enjoyed our pantry offering and our location worked so well for you. I do hope that we get chance to welcome you back to the hotel when you are next in London. Best wishes, Anthony.
