The Great Northern Hotel is situated next to and part of the famous King's Cross Station (go inside and visit platform 9 and 3/4 and the Harry Potter gift shop!), across the road from St. Pancras Station and with a taxi rink just outside, it's pretty east to get around the city.
You are only a 20 minute walk away from the beautiful Regent's Park (inc ZSL London Zoo), 10 minute walk away from the Charles Dickens Museum and if you walk a further 10 minutes from here you'll find yourself at the incredible British Museum!
Kings Cross offers a lot of bars, pubs and restaurants. Take your pick! There is a restaurant and bar downstairs in the hotel too, aswell as a starbucks, yo sushi and mcdonalds near by!
When we arrived we were shown inside by the doorman who directed us to the reception so we could check in. We were upgraded to the Waynecott room on the fifth floor and were shown there again by the doorman who offered to carry our luggage. You're given a keycard, two if you want, and you need this to get onto your floor and into your room. It's just a swipe and it's easy to use.
The room was amazing. I loved everything about it! Boutique and luxury decorated beautifully with deep purple paint and dark wood panelled walls. Here you have a tv with 70 free movies, audiobooks and super fast wifi. You have a minibar, I was surprised by how cheap it was, stocking things like coke, apple juice, crisps and a box of maltesers. You have 2 complimentary bottles of water and use of the nespresso machine. You have a safe and closet space to hang any clothes. There's a cute little seating area, a nice touch. The bed was firm, the best bed I've ever slept on! The linen and sheets were soft, high quality and very comfortable. Some rooms offer a bath instead of a shower, we wanted a shower and it was great! A beautifully decorated bathroom, clean and crisp with a large walk in shower. Lovely shower gels, shampoos and soaps and little vanity kits including shower cap. They had slippers and fluffy dressing gowns in the closet too.
The morning after my first night Ii was up at 5am and the pantry was being cleaned and restocked by a member of staff. The pantry is genial and I hope they keep it! It's basically a little kitchen, each floor has one and it's where the guests can go anythime day or night to read a newspaper and help themselves to coffee, cake, sweets and biscuits and a cup of tea. When we stayed they had chocolate cake, jelly babies, caramel biscuits, wagon wheels and my favourite, tea pigs! Teapigs are a high quality fairtrade brand of teabag and they are delicious! They had a little assortment of chamomile, feng green tea and breakfast tea. Amazing!
The hotel itself is gorgeous. It's lovely from ground floor to top! The glass lifts and grand staircases with impressive stained glass windows tie modern with historic perfectly. The staff can't do enough for you. Would 100% return and definitely recommend this hotel to anybody travelling to London! I didn't want to leave!!!
