“Great”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

Stayed here on Sat 12th July for my 40th birthday. Told staff in advance about my impending date and they could not have been more helpful. Complimentary fizz and desert with my name in it. Room not massive but very quiet (on the top floor). All staff lovely and very accomodating. Will definitely recommend it to others.

Room Tip: 5th Floor is classed as the quiet floor. Never heard a thing.

My new husband & I stayed in this hotel on the nights either side of our wedding last weekend, and it was a great experience from start to finish. Our room (a Cubitt room, one of the 'best' in the hotel) was beautifully designed and finished - no bathtub, but otherwise every mod con you could hope for. There was even a 'Pantry' on each floor offering complementary freshly baked cake, sweets, biscuits, fruit, tea, Nespresso coffee, newspapers...A lovely touch. The staff couldn't have been more helpful with all the various requests I was making in the run up to my wedding, and always acted with courtesy and personality which makes a change in London! Location could not have been better. All round fantastic experience :)

Room Tip: Although my room was the 'best' option, it didn't have a bathtub - not an issue for us...

Stayed here the night before getting the eurostar early in the morning, great location as it was just over the road to the terminal.

We were upgraded on arrival to one of the top rooms they have, comfy bed, big bathroom and great on demand TV. Each floor has a pantry which is regularly re filled with cakes, sweets and biscuits along with a selection of coffees.

Didn't use the bar or restaurant but both looked really nice.

would stay again.

My wife and I just stayed at this hotel a couple nights during the first and last days of our two week vacation, and it was an excellent experience! The first two nights, we were pre-booked for the mid-level Wainscot room, but were upgraded by the staff to the upper level Cubitt room when we arrived! The hotel was remodeled in the last couple years, and it is done impeccably! Everything is well thought out, and though the rooms are not super large, they've thought of everything from a wonderful glass shower, with lots of pressure, to a couple usb outlets near each bed table to re-charge electronic devices. The décor is wonderful, and elegant, yet not stuffy. The Plum and Spilt Milk restaurant had a wonderful menu, and impeccable service. After our second dinner there, the manager came by to ask how everything was, and then sent over complimentary glasses of champagne when he discovered we were vacationing for our 20th Anniversary. The wait staff always greeted us with a smile and were very helpful. The best part is that the hotel is very well located at two train stations, Kings Cross if you're going to other parts of England or to Europe via Eurostar, and St. Pancras, which gives access to the London Underground (Tube), which also connects you to Heathrow via a one-hour subway ride.

We loved every minute, and while the prices are not inexpensive, you get what you pay for at the Great Northern. We're planning on using them when we visit London in the future.

Whilst my wife and I have made use of the bar (see previous reviews) this was the first time we stayed at the GNR. We arrived early to leave our bags but a room was available and offered to us, which was ideal. The reception staff were excellent at both ends of the visit. The room was comfortable and the pantry arrangement novel and very convenient. The only disappointment was the absence of fresh milk in the morning. There was an attendant who disappeared and did not return to resolve this. The price is comparable to the St. Pancras Hotel. The room was significantly smaller and a little more expensive, but with wifi included in the rate, whereas it was an outrageous £6 per hour at St. Pancras. Likewise the public areas are not as large and as impressive as they are at St. Pancras but we'd be equally happy to stay at either hotel. They compliment each other very well.

The hotel went out of their way to help my dad celebrate his 90th Birthday weekend. From the first greeting all the way through to breakfast and dinner on his birthday. The staff were fantastic, nothing too much trouble. We stayed in rooms 410, 412 and 424, on the St Pancras side and they were lovely. Room 412 was the larger of the three, but all were well appointed and decorated. The breakfast, although a bit steep was really good as well. Evening meal in the Plum and Spilt Milk was delicious, from the appetisers to sweet, service was very friendly and efficient. We loved our whole weekend at the hotel and will be back.
Oh and no noise in the rooms - double glazing truly did its work. The pantry - well, I really needed that cake after all the food I ate! haha.

Room Tip: Rooms on the St Pancras side were very good and room 424 gives a wonderful view of the large St Panc...

Hello again Sue,

We were chuffed that you decided to celebrate at the GNH for your dad's 90th birthday so thank you for taking the time to write about your experience with us. We are rather lucky to have Chef Mark Sargeant overseeing our hotel's food concept and I believe it shows in the quality of our food. Plum and Spilt Milk has a superb atmosphere and glad you enjoyed your night and in particular our wonderful staff. Who knows maybe we shall see you and your dad for his next birthday!

Look forward to welcoming you back to the Great Northern Hotel in the future,

Best wishes,

Mairead Gleeson

Staff are always friendly and helpful, although I was disappointed that there were no irons in the room or in the pantry at the end of the corridor. I did ask for on to be left in my room on arrival but it did not happen. Fortunately the creases in me dress dropped out!
My other criticism is that much as I love their showers the duel controls are a nightmare! Got got drenched by the overhead shower when I wanted to use the adjustable one. It should be easy to put a sign to give you a clue! Restaurant excellent with friendly and helpful staff.

Room Tip: I have only ever stayed in a cubit room. No idea what the others are like but some I suspect might b...
