Took my hubby in for a quick pitstop on the way to dinner and the theatre. I really wanted to experience this amazing view. And amazing it is. We had the perfect sunny afternoon to experience it.
I had a glass of Champagne (seemed only right) and hubby had a cocktail. It really is great. The place, the view, the staff and surroundings. Can't wait to go back for lunch or dinner soon.
If you go to the toilets, they are very dark indeed as are the corridors, but all part of the mystique of the place.
We have tickets for The View, so should be brilliant seeing a 360 degree view.
You simply must go.

For a Saturday lunchtime birthday treat in Central London this couldn't have been a much better choice! In fact we felt as if we were on holiday even though we've lived in London all our adult lives

Obviously the views are the main reason to choose this restaurant - and from the 32nd floor they are pretty spectacular!

The restaurant was packed - but notwithstanding this the service was very slick - and the menu was interesting with some unusual choices

And when we ordered pudding they very discretely marked my partner's birthday with a single candle on the plate and happy birthday written around the outside (unsolicited!)

The only thing that has prevented me from scoring it a perfect 5 was that I was slightly disappointed with the decor and layout. The entrance is via the cooking area - and we were warned to watch the slightly greasy floor on the way in - and once inside, I felt that had it not been for the fabulous views(which are a positive distraction as well as being the main attraction) the decor would have seemed slightly disappointing - a little drab with a slightly "cluttered" feel to it - but perhaps that was because we had just come from the Aquashard Bar which is huge, spacious and definitely "cool"

But overall a great experience and we will definitely go back

About £75 per head for 3 courses, including wine and service

It was a visit well overdue as the Shard has been around for over a year, and deciding to drop in to see if we could dine at one of its 2 venues on the thirty "some-thinged" floor seemed a refreshing idea on this weekday evening.

Both the main Oblix and Hutong restaurants were full, however Oblix (part of the Zuma/Roka chain) found us a table in their bar which in any case served most of their restaurant offering apart from their rotisserie items. They even found us a high table which faced the glorious views and so we were very pleased to settle down to was to be a pleasant and satisfying dinner of lamb chops and fillet steak both of which were fine though not as overwhelmingly impressive as the views.

They had live music that evening and not only that, but it changed sessions three times; yes there were three different bands performing or on show. I did also notice that the stage is placed in a rather prime position in the outward facing corner of the restaurant taking up one of the few areas which has amazing glass-wrapped view as it were. One might think placing the band elsewhere and utilising this prime vista point or seating area for diners might have been a more efficient approach. Anyhow the live music together with the views was certainly an intoxicating mixture of the best kind!

And so it was an "experience" as many have reported, however the evening was not completely over as we chose to walk briefly for a visit to the Oblix main restaurant who received us gracefully, as well as just across the corridor to Hutong (part of the Aqua chain, Chinese restaurant) in case another occasion might have leant us towards trying that instead.

How wrong we were however, as even though by this late hour Hutong was not more than two thirds full, they projected frosty reluctance to even allow us to peek our heads in to see the restaurant. This was clumsily followed by over zealous marketing spiel from one of its less experienced managers who purported that the restaurant had been fully booked for 4 months ahead of its opening, and that we should have called the central booking number rather than try our luck this evening, further adding insult to frostiness in an attempt to stage some sort of snobbish exclusivity no doubt.

Any previous intentions we had of looking further at the private rooms, (which were all visibly empty anyway, as they are of "see-through" lattice in fomat) for a function which was being planned fell away immediately, as one would not have dreamed of wanting to risk exposing guests to such a clumsy lack of charm that by now one imagine was most probably pervasive of this venue.

As we strolled back towards the lifts, we were still appreciative of the evening Oblix had provided (despite being quite full up) via its hearty food, exquisite views and very courteous service, and indeed how this was contrasted by the belligerent and clumsy affect we had experienced at Hutong.

We had a business lunch earlier this week in a very full restaurant, however the service at the table was excellent and we didn't feel rushed or forgotten. 5 of us spent approximately £50 a head - no alcohol and no desserts so not the cheapest lunch - however the food was presented beautifully and was very flavoursome.

When you first exit the lift the entry to Oblix is very dark and can be a little off putting, however when you enter the restaurant (walking through the middle of the open kitchen) the light from the floor to ceiling windows affording you a view out across the Thames and the city is fantastic. On the other side of the tower on the same level is the more relaxed "lounge" where you can also eat a cut down menu from the same kitchen.

Would highly recommend for the "wow factor" for either business entertaining or a special occasion, but for lunch the restaurant was buzzing (aka quite loud) so don't go expecting an intimate meal for 2!
