We wanted a reasonably priced base for a visit to London with our two teenagers. This ticked the boxes. Extremely close to Vauxhall tube, very quiet in room (despite overlooking the bus station), very clean hotel with friendly staff. Only downside was some noise from rooms above but didn't make much difference really.

As soon as my and my boyfriend exited Vauxhall underground he imminently got his phone out, got up maps and asked for the hotel postcode (this seems to have become a tradition when we stay in London). While he was doing that, staring at me was a Travelodge sign to the right. It seemed quite unbelievable to us that our hotel was so close to the underground.

The hotel is situated right next to the bus station which is good if you want to catch the bus (which we didn't), however it's not so good if you have a room which faces the buses. Conveniently our room was not facing them, so we didn't hear them. Our view was just of another building opposite us. This doesn't bother me as we were only there for one night while my boyfriend attended a job interview.

The whole hotel has been done up so almost everything is new, the bed was firm - which we both like, but if you prefer soft beds this place probably isn't for you - the window didn't open "for our own safety" but we had air conditioning so that didn't bother us, and the shower was lovely and warm.

The only issue that we had was that our key-card didn't work, which isn't a surprise as these hardly ever work at hotels. I don't see what's wrong with a normal key myself. Probably for safety reasons or something like that, you never know when you're accidentally going to impale yourself with a key.

We both got a breakfast as an option which was served at 7am, and had full English stuff and continental things too. It was alright, not the best and not the worst I've had. It's not a necessity to buy it from the hotel, as with London there's always a Pret A Manger within viewing distance, same with a Starbucks (there's a Starbucks next to this Travelodge) so you could always go there for food.

Room Tip: Try not to get a room viewing the buses, unless looking at buses is your kinda thing.

My experience throughout was very good: check in was friendly and efficient. My room was clean and very quiet (if faced onto the train track and I couldn't hear a thing). The bed was very comfortable indeed. The hotel generally was very quiet and I had a great night's sleep.

But...at £117 the cost was only a little cheaper than over the bridge at the Hilton Doubletree in Westminster - where the rooms are much bigger.

This aside - recommended.

Room Tip: Higher level rooms would shield residents from the noise from the street and bars below.

The saying "you get what you pay for" is definitely true- the hotel itself was not that bad, the staff were very welcoming and helped us find somewhere to park as that was a major problem. My criticisms would be that the beds were not very comfortable and the room was not cleaned to a high standard.
I can't fault the breakfast at the hotel, it was excellent and there was a lot of choice, the cooked food was grilled and eeverything was fresh. Unfortunately if we had knowledge of the area prior to booking we would have stayed somewhere else. This hotel would be good for singles or couples but definitely not families with children due to the small sized rooms and the area.

For only £70 a room, we were treated to a friendly, helpful and spotless travelodge conveniently next to vauxhall station. The noise was minimum and we all felt safe and secure in this very busy area. We stayed here for the roller disco which is five minutes walk away and several lovely bars and restaurants only a few moments away. Would definitely recommend.
