Great to find another little neighborhood pub in London that gets it right. Small but impeccable digs on a quiet side street not far from the Borough Market, The Rose serves up about 10 really good beers in fantastic nick, and a lovely menu of sustainable "gastro" twisted pub standards. For example, the "bangers and mash" is a lovely platter of organic wild boar sausages, done up right with sautéed onions and gravy atop perfectly smashed organic potatoes, and served with a side of organic carrots and sautéed chard. The Ploughman's looks more akin to a good Italian charcuterie platter, with thinly sliced morsels of epicurean grade meats and hearty English country cheeses. A smallish place, which is to say there's plenty of room but you don't feel you've walked into some cavernous warehouse. Friendly staff. A perfect welcome back to the Old Country. Highly recommend.
(Oh, the VR Reference: A wonderful bust of Queen Victoria graces the bar, and a lovely framed illustration of Her Highness looks down upon the patrons from an inner wall.)
