“Stay HERE when you are in London: Best of the Best”

Forget hotels when you are in London, stay 'away from the maddening crowds'. This vacation rental is in London but not in the tourist clogged, noise-infused areas. This rental is in the Limehouse/Canary Wharf area. Six minute walk to the railway that connects to the underground 3 stops away. Seriously, all important underground stops are 2-6 stops from there! Basically, you are less than 30 min from everything. This beats many hotels in noisy areas that still require underground travel and a bunch of transfer to other lines to get to Buckingham Palace and other top tourist destinations.

Read other reviews with pictures to see the property. It really is lovely. It became home for us for a week. The apartment was very comfortable. Flat screen TV. The bed was wonderful and the pillows were perfect. Sheets were high thread count.

Maggie, the owner, will take care of you. Better than any concierge for how to get from the property to where you want to go. Maggie provides a plate of wonderful chocolates and fruit, both were great snacks while we were there. She also has bread, yogurt, juice and milk (for coffee and tea) as well as coffee (instant) and a selection of tea bags. The kitchen area has a fridge and microwave.

Maggie gave us a jar of homemade apricot jam. She had been surprised that her last clients had ate it all. DUH! During the week we ate the entire jar of her homemade apricot jam. It was THAT good!

The area is residential and very quiet. Within 600 yards is 'The Grapes', an historic pub, now owned by Gandolf (Lord of the Rings) and patronized by Charles Dickens back in the day. Totally worth a visit and many people staying in London proper have to pay a fortune in cab fare to get there! A small grocery/7-11 is less than 0.2 miles from the place, and another great local restaurant is nearby (The Narrow). If you are willing to walk 1/2 mile, there is a ton of great restaurants along the Thames in Canary Wharf.

Besides 'The Grapes' for history, there is the Docklands Museum. Walking distance (less than a mile-ish). Free. And provides a totally indepth history of the docks of Limehouse/Canary Wharf.

Maggie helped us with local transportation from Heathrow to her place. Cheaper than a taxi and even though her place is on the underground/railway, when you are coming from the US, schlepping luggage through the underground is not a fun option. WELL WORTH IT.

Just make sure you turn your phone off airplane mode. The driver (who was a total delight to talk to during the trip and provided a running commentary on what we were seeing, better than a bus tour guide) will call you when you arrive. Also make sure you have Maggie's phone saved in your smartphone. She is your 'while in London' contact and happy to be so.

Next time we travel to London, we will stay here. After all the hotels we've stayed in, during prior visits, this was the most relaxing, homey and closest to everything tourist.

“Wonderful Location/Hosts/Place”

We absolutely loved the location of Limehouse! It is quaint, easy access to the busy city and Maggie and Ray were simply wonderful! The flat is located in their home and they make you feel so welcome and at home. Maggie has cereal, fruit and other things that made our stay so personal. She confirmed rides without us knowing to make sure that everything went smoothly. I sat and had wine one evening with both Maggie and Ray - and it really was just lovely! What a wonderful, wonderful experience.
We took the boat into the city every day. We did not do the tube as my mom is elderly and the boat was just so, so easy! We loved this entire experience!

“Great place to come back to and relax”
Reviewed 20 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Magpie was the most excellent host'.The studio was great, very homely after a day of exploring London. Very close to the DLR and river ferry transport. Totally a great area to stay in. We stayed 9 nights and it was so much better tan staying in a hotel!!

“excellant”
Reviewed 23 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

I chose this rental on previous reviews and I was not disappointed, its exactly as described. immaculate throughout, very thoughtful touches to make our stay perfect. We chose the area as we were visiting out son who is in Uni in Greenwich but it is very close to 2 DLR station so really good links to central London. A good place if you are arriving into London city airport or the Euro Star from Europe as you can leave the train at Stratford and take the DLR. Secure parking included which is a massive plus and the host could not be more helpful. Will certainly be returning

“Comfortable,cosy, safe apartment in Limehouse.”

My wife and I really enjoyed staying in this little apartment. The weather at the time was very cool but the apartment was well heated and we were very comfortable. It is close to a number of very good restaurants and only a short walk or light rail trip to Canary Wharf which has all your shopping needs. The bed was very comfortable and the apartment very quiet. The kitchenette was very basic, with microwave, fridge, toaster and jug, but quite suitable for us, as Maggie generously supplied bread, milk, jams, cereal and yoghurt...thank you! Maggie was extremely helpful and made numerous suggestions for outings and restaurants. We were very happy with the apartment and would highly recommend it to others.

If you have watched "Call the Midwife" or read Charles Dickens, this location will delight you. The East End has been discovered and so many of the original buildings rehabilitated. Public transportation is accessible and easy. Get an Oyster card at the airport (32 pounds for a week; 54 pounds for two weeks for zones 1 & 2). The apartment is prisitne, the couches are great for curling up with a good book or catching up on the news on CNN or the BBC. The hosts, Maggie and Ray, couldn't be more accomodating. The fridge is full of goodies. I would stay here again.

Having read the glowing reviews of previous guests we were very much looking forward to our stay and had high expectations. We were certainly not disappointed. Right from the time of booking, Maggie went out of her way to provide assistance, options and suggestions. We were delighted that an early checkin to accommodate the arrival of our long haul flight was offered. Unfortunately a 16 hour delay with the flight saw us arrive after midnight and this was still not a problem for Maggie who welcomed us upon arrival (we had communicated via email during the delay). The studio was exactly as described and the additional welcoming touches just as described by others. The location is superb. Our interactions with Maggie and Ray were akin to those of dear friends, with the warmth and generosity adding so much to our stay.
