Three friends and I booked to stay in this hostel for three nights in November 2004. As students we are on a pretty tight budget so couldn't avoid anything luxurious but we thought the Rosedene would be more than suitable for our needs - somewhere to sleep, keep our belongings and wash - and breakfast being included was a bonus.
However, when we arrived at the hostel our room was not ready, so after a 2 and half hour coach journey we had nowhere to freshen up or change clothes so we just dumped our stuff and went to get some lunch. When we returned about an hour later our room was still not ready and we had to wait another 5-10 minutes. Certain memebers of the staff were also not very polite and I for one did not feel welcome. Breakfast is delivered the day before in a 'continental package' which consists of a bread roll, an apple, chocolate bar, milk for coffee or tea, jam for the bread and orange juice. Although the food you are given is quite good value for money, as you can imagine, in a room where four people are sleeping the breakfast is not exactly fresh by the morning. To top it off on the second night of our stay one of my friends had his MP3 player stolen from our room whilst we were out for the day. In some descriptions of this hostel it says security lockers are provided, but if indeed the hostel does have these, we were never shown them. The reception is not open 24 hours a day and even within its opening hours staff are hard to find so when we discovered the MP3 player had been taken we had to search the hostel for a member of staff. The incident was dealt with eventually but we were not offered an apology. I would definetely avoid this hostel if I were going to London again.
