Description: Boulestin is an elegant and convivial Restaurant and brasserie-style Cafe in St James's serving classic French dishes inspired by the 20th-century food expert and first TV chef, Xavier Marcel Boulestin. The brain-child of renowned restaurateur, Joel Kissin, Boulestin brings back old-school dishes such as Oeuf en Gelee, Jambon Persille, Daube of Beef, Steak Tartare and Cassoulet, using M. Boulestin's original recipes, and couples them with impeccable service. With a Private Dining Room and pretty outdoor terrace-style Courtyard for al fresco dining, Boulestin is the perfect destination, whether you're after a celebratory dinner, special event dining, pre/post theatre meal or just a quick bite or light meal in the Cafe.

Found this lovely little restaurant/café this week and we're delighted that we did. Had a light meal early one evening - excellent croquet madame for me and my husband's lambs' liver was perfectly cooked, truly delicious - and went back for breakfast another day. Breakfast good but the ambience not up to that of The Wolseley, just round the corner. Service ever-so-slightly amateurish but that can be forgiven as it's such a delightful place.

It's a lovely room but my friend quibbled with the raison d'être of the food & the surroundings. The ambience is posh French but the food & pricing is more bistro so slight juxtaposition with the 5* surroundings & service.

Ambience slightly lacking on a Thursday night. Again oddity - starters v small - herring & oeuf a meurette ( fantastic poached in red wine with lardons, onions & small crouton) but mains huge & I mean huge - cassoulet - order it between 2 of you - very good but enormous. Lovely daube of beef. Sides unnecessary.

Very good value. it's possibly the wrong part of St James so will be interested to see how it does. Will definitely go back - for brunch probably next time because the brasserie at the front looks a very good deal. Also will try their outdoor tables in summer.

Having visited Cafe Marcel at Boulestin twice now - once for weekday lunch and once for Saturday night dinner - I was impressed with the quality of the service and the cooking on both occasions. Being able to choose from the a la carte or cafe menus is a brilliant idea, and the fixed price menu is excellent value for money - the portions on this particular menu are not huge (and there's no vegetarian option) but it's perfect for lunchtime, or for diners with a smaller appetite. With careful selections from the cafe and fixed price menus, you can experience top quality food in the surroundings of St James's at a surprisingly affordable price. Special mention, too, for the cute little cigar-shaped bread rolls - delicious - and the gorgeous desserts. The baked pineapple with coconut ice cream was amazing. Service is discreet and attentive. Being at the quieter end of St James's Street, the restaurant is easy to miss and the smart, chic interior isn't necessarily obvious from the slightly twee-looking exterior. Definitely worth a visit.

Quiet enough so you can talk; comfortable and relaxed. The food we ate exceeded expectations, my partridge was pink and juicy and full of flavour. The carrots were sweet and garden fresh. The only disappointment was the stodgy bread sauce that came with the partridge. My guest said that his veal chop was the best he had ever tasted. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant for its civilised, adult ambience, great food and charmingly attentive service. I'll be back soon.

Charming, reasonably priced restaurant serving excellent French cuisine in Mayfair on St James's St. (It's next to Berry Bros and Rudd so if you go for lunch or an early dinner you can pick up their inexpensive, high quality, house-brand Ordinary and Extraordinary Claret.) We ate well at Boulestin twice during recent visit to London. We stay in Mayfair often and know the restaurants well, so I was thrilled to find this high quality newcomer near the flat we use. The service is warm and friendly; the food outstanding. Our first visit was at the suggestion of a friend after an evening arrival and we wanted something light. I enjoyed an outstanding bowl of Soupe de Poisson and a glass of claret. Friends joined us later in the week for a well-prepared French meal -- the real thing, but straightforward.
