This hotel is brilliant, from the moment you walk in you see the quirky little features that make this hotel what it is. From the guitar on the wall of the lift, to the fish bowls (with fish!) in the breakfast area, a lot of little touches have been added to this hotel which in my opinion makes it seem like it should be more expensive than the very reasonable price we paid. Unfortunately due to the extremely comfy beds we overslept 2 hours and missed breakfast- but the breakfast area looked really cool and again had quirky decor. The only slight downside was that the hotel was a bit of a walk to any of the restaurants and bars that we wanted to visit- but that was our poor planning, rather than being misled about the location. Couldn't fault this overnight stay.

I had once believed to find a clean, affordable hotel in London, in zone 1 of the London Underground, for seven nights, for under $1,000, was merely impossible. However, Qbic has proved me wrong! We stayed in London in the first week of May and had the good fortune to stumble upon this little gem. The hotel is quirky, but in a good way, creating a warm atmosphere. Most hotels in Europe are tiny, drab and old, but this hotel is new and the room is quite big. Our room had a great shower, huge and comfy bed, along with a wonderful air cooling system. It's located near a Tesco and is a five minute walk from the Aldgate East tube station. The elevators require your keycard to work, which is a great added feature. There is complimentary tea (Twinings, naturally) and kettle on every floor and purified water in the lobby.

Ignore the nitwits who mention this place is in a bad area. It's Whitechapel. Yes, it might be dodgy for London standards, but it's no Harlem or Detroit. I sometimes wonder if many reviewers know of ACTUAL crime-ridden areas. Whitechapel is perfectly safe during the daytime and like anywhere in London, take caution at night. Nothing to worry about.

All in all, we loved this hotel and look forward to coming back.

Room Tip: Inquire about being on the top floor. It's quiet.

I stayed here for work and hadn't really done any research so had no expectations. The hotel isn't impressive from the outside, nor the lobby. Receptionists were friendly. The room was quirky to say the least, relatively small, functional but a hugely comfortable bed. No desk to work at and no where to sit except for the bed so not ideal for spending a few hours in, nor working in. The location didn't lend itself to being outside walking about too late either.

Dear Clare H,

Thank you for your review.

We take our guest feedback very seriously and we are looking to implement more furniture in the bedrooms.

We offer three different room types:
Smart room - No window
Cosy room - Standard Double room with window
Fun room - Large Double room with window

The Cosy and Fun rooms are more spacious. We would love to welcome you back to Qbic Hotel London City and experience our Cosy and Fun rooms. We always try to make sure every guest will be pleased.

Thank you again.

Kind Regards,

Paola La Monica

While I do understand that you get what you pay for and know of the poor quality London hotels are for some reason allowed to display, I do not accept the room we had to stay in. If you go to a Premier Inn you get the basics, but at least you get a good night sleep. In this hotel it is all about appearances and design without the quality or care to back it up. While the room looked clean on our arrival, I find it hard to believe a hotel would give room 025 to paying guests. To start off with, the bathroom is a plastic box build into the bedroom with a door that does not really shut. This gives you a "nice" feeling of sleeping in your bathroom the moment somebody uses it. Additionally when someone in another room uses water (flushes the toilet, showers, etc.) the water pipe causes loud noises in our room. Given this happened about every 20 minutes during the night, proper sleeping was absolutely impossible. Due to the inability of the hotel to even get the basics right, we will not stay another night and would not recommend anybody to stay here. The fact that most negative reviews deal with the same issues over an extended amount of time shows that the hotel does not care to improve on said issues.

Travelled with my 13-year-old son in April 2014. We ordered a room with a courtyard view and asked for twin beds instead of a double bed, so two weeks before we arrived we were upgraded for free to a "FUN" room on the 2nd floor. This is the hotel's largest room that's suitable for people with wheelchairs. This upgrade was very successful. Here are the good points about the "FUN" room and the hotel:

1. Spacious room with twin beds, large windows facing a small and mostly empty parking lot. Heavy curtains that maintain your privacy and prevent daylight from penetrating the room in the morning.
2. Good lighting. Large bathroom with a real door (I've read reviews about other rooms that had no real door to the bathroom or a transparent one ...). Good shower, hot water, soap and towels.
3. Very comfortable beds.
4. Good working WiFi connection.
5. Quiet room, except that there is an adjacent room, and since the walls are very thin we could sometimes hear our neighbors ... But luckily for us they were mostly quiet.
6. The room is very clean. There are trash bins in the room and the bathroom. The room is cleaned and the towels are replaced every day.
7. There are 3 clothes hangers on one of the walls. This was important since we had 3 coats to hang.
8. Free tea and coffee in the lobby.
9. Good location - 2 minutes from the tube station.
10. Supermarkets very close - Tesco and CostCutter. Also many cafes and restaurants.
11. Good value for the money, especially because we got a discount and a free room upgrade.
12. Nice hotel staff. Easy and quick check-in and check-out (although when we arrived at 01:00 AM, the doors were closed and we had to wait a few minutes for one of the staff to let us in ...).
13. There was a table and two chairs in the room. This was very important and convenient for us. Note that you have to ask for a table and chairs. Most rooms are not equipped with these.
14. There are about 4 electricity sockets in the room, which is enough. One of them is a European socket. The rest are British.

Overall, we had a very good experience with this hotel.

Room Tip: - Order your room as early as possible, even 6 months in advance. Look for discount deals. - Ask for a room on a high floor. - Email (or tweet/Facebook) the hotel staff about two weeks before arrival and remind them that you're coming and make sure your requests are met.
