Description: Located in Mayfair, Gymkhana is inspired by the colonial British-Indian ‘gymkhana’ clubs. The restaurant serves contemporary Indian cuisine using seasonal British ingredients with a strong focus on the tandoori oven and chatpatta sharing dishes in a convivial environment. The bar at Gymkhana specialises in classic Indian punches and cocktails - fusing spices with Indian spirits and a carefully selected gin and tonic list. Gymkhana was awarded a Michelin star in 2014.

The food is marinated well and the spices give a great kick, preferred the chicken tikka over the wings, the lamb chops were fab. Prawns were amazing! Also the chaat was great too. The sauces and salad to go with were also great. The venue itself is like a old vintage club. The service was top notch, the waitor helped us and recommended dishes.

Most indian restaurants in london serve food that is bland and not typical indian...i think gymkhana is THE BEST indian in london...and you wont be disappointed.

We had been looking forward to our meal and had heard excellent things from friends so it was a shame to be a little disappointed. We arrived early and asked if we could have a drink at the bar which we were told was fine. However we were directed to the bar and left standing as the other seats were taken. The barman eventually had to go downstairs himself to find us seats at the bar downstairs.
When the time came for our meal we asked to be seated and the waitress wandered off to find our table, at which point another waitress came and asked us to take our table as our allotted 2 hours had started. This non-communication between staff was a running theme of the evening. Each individual was polite but one hand didn't know what the other was doing and orders and tasks were repeated.
The food was good. We had the chaat, venison keema naan and goat keema for starters. The goat keema was wonderful. Delicately spiced and delicious. The other two dishes were good but almost slightly too spicy. I'm not afraid of chilli at all, but it almost destroyed the wonderful spicing as the chilli was a distinct after-burn.
For main course we had the butter chicken and the malabar curry. Both good again but certainly not exceptional. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable but I found myself asking whether it was worth paying 8 times more (it is pretty pricey) than we do in some of the amazing curry houses in Tooting or South London that we go to. I would have to say no.

It took a lot of effort to secure a table for dinner. It was worth the effort. The decoration of the old Gymknana club make the different from typical Indian restaurant. We dined at basement and the service was attentive and smooth. Selection of dishes was less than many other Indian restaurants but what we ordered or recommended, they were all excellent, delicious and high quality. We would love to return each time we are in London. Keep it up the high standard.

It is nice to see curry done with a twist. Karma Sethi produces elegant and very well flavoured dishes with venison and suckling pig as well as the usual suspects of prawn and very rich Dahl. The breads are wonderful, although watch the chillis. Possibly a little pricey, even though quality is good. Not sure about the ambience of the room, a touch of the spit and sawdust pub rather than the 1920's Gymkhana club. Overall would go back, but maybe will try the downstairs secluded dining areas.

Had 2 visits once as a couple and once as a group. The full menu was fantastic and outstanding quality and flavours. However when with the group on the £55 tasting menu the quality dropped. Great wine list and bar but the service wasn't perfect and when you pay these prices you expect better hospitality. In short very good on the first visit but the tasting menu was not good for the cost.
