It was a good experience! We opted for Venice to London. It was magnificent scenery going from Italy into Austria. Our two French stewards Teibho (Can't spell) and Julien were lovely! (they made the journey for us!) It was a very good experience, not sure if I'd do it again as because the train is so old the rooms are very pokey and small and there isn't proper washing facilities and being both smokers it's a non smoking train (which was quite hard for us after a few drinks!) The drinks are very expensive on the train around £40 for your cheapest bottle of vino and £18 for a dram. We didn't sleep much as again the train being so old it was very rickedy! The food was amazing and rich and the dining cart was alot of fun. I think personally for myself It was hard going to sit and eat and sit and eat. I wanted to walk around a bit more and spend longer at each stop. It was a great experience to have never the less! I shall never forget it!

We travelled as a group of 6 from Venice to Paris with an overnight stay on board the Orient Express. We boarded at Santa Lucia, Venice late morning. On board we were shown my our steward Massimo our cabins and given a complimentary glass of champagne. The cabins are small but perfect, the sofa converts to bunk beds and there is a small wash basin vanity unit. Your clothes are hung around the cabin on hooks, there is plenty of shelving stoarage above your head for hand luggage etc. A small table pulls out for your afternoon tea and breakfast. Yes, the cabins are very small but we expected this and we managed to dress for dinner etc. We had an inter-connecting door with 2 of our friends, we kept this door open most of the time as it allowed the room to open up and give more space and also was excellent for us to sit and chat.

The dining cars are absolutely stunning. Each is decorated differently and all are equipped with crystal glasses and lamps. The food was excellent, lunch and dinner. HOWEVER, unfortunately the heating broken down in our dinner car. It was absolutely freezing, the ladies needed to wear the mens jackets and we were shivering, we could finish our meal and it really spoilt the evening experience for us. The staff were not very helpful, the manager was useless. We couldnt be moved to another car as they were full with everyone else who was having dinner. We couldnt get into the bar as people were queing, this train could really do with another bar at the other end. So disappointingly we didnt experience drinks in the bar with the piano and dinner was cut short. At midnight when the manager eventually came to talk to us we were offered a bottle of champagne ..... too little too late.

The scenry is amazing and I would love to try this again but sadly the evening experience has let me with a bitter taste.

From the moment you are registered on platform 12 at Hualapong station in Bangkok to your arrival in Woodlands Singapore- you will surely find a major tick in your "things to do before you die" list.
Staff: Best i have ever encountered in any trip, holiday or visit anywhere.
Food: As good as any top restaurant in any major city in the world.
Entertainment: Depends on crowd- ours was up for a party which made it great fun from start to finsih - and made some great new friends.
Room: Booked state room - which was fantastic, plenty of room for all you need to do and very very comfortable.
Stops: River Kwai and Penang in Malaysia excellent - shorter than expected due to delays - but still enough time to enjoy the experience.
Scenery: excellent scenery - can get a bit samey at times- but even sitting inside the bar at the back of the train drinking a cup of tea, a beer, glass of wine- or whatever and watching the world go by while chatting to new made friends was just perfect.
Ride: very bumby first night- but as the track got better entering Malaysia side - it evened out. So no sleep first night- but nights 2 and 3 was just fine.
Piano lounge: Excellent way to end the night- Peter on piano would play most tunes you asked for. We had a party and danced, sang and drank til the wee small hours- especially on the final evening.
