“Does Not Serve Its Purpose”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2014

My wife and I were eager to visit London during the holidays and since we needed a centrally located hotel that included wifi and a breakfast every day, we decided to stay at the Garden View Hotel as the reviews on this place were pretty good. However, we were both disappointed with our stay on many levels. First, the wifi did not work the entire time we we there (we even tried to switch to another room right next to the wifi modem and it still didn't work). Second, the rooms are literally the size of a walk in closet with a double bed and micro sized bathroom with no bath for my wife and shower is slow to drain. Third, the continental breakfast is a joke with only toast, 3 types of cereal, instant coffee, milk, and OJ. Lastly, the service was teetering between average and sub par as the staff actually doesn't clean when your room needs it's daily servicing. In a nutshell, we were shocked that the reviews of this place were so good as there were several things lacking here. However, the location was outstanding in Earls Court only minutes away from the tube and close to all the best attractions of London. If you are on a tight budget and just need a place to sleep, then this is the place for you. However, if you need working wifi and enough room to walk and sleep without hitting your head on everything and need a slightly better breakfast than toast, this isn't it.

This is the second time I've stayed here. The room is small but clean and nice. The staff were very helpful, especially Terri! It is close to the underground and in a nice historic area. I will stay here again.

I stayed here recently with my son and we had a twin room. The room was small which we expected after reading previous reviews but not the smallest hotel room I have ever had! There was no bath, just a shower but this was all we had time for anyway. The hotel is lovely quiet location, overlooking a garden but only 5 minute walk or so to Earls Court Tube. The breakfast was limited but adequate - only cereal or toast but with a selection of preserves, honey etc. I found the receptionists that we spoke to very helpful and would recommend this hotel for someone looking for somewhere cheap, in the heart of London. I would definitely consider returning.

Stayed here recently. Nice tidy room a little small. But great if your only planning on sleeping here. Breakfast consists of toast and cereal. Nothing fancy but enough to start you off. Only thing is if you use directions straight from trip advisor they send you to the wrong place.

The three person room was just big enough for the one double bed and two singles with little space to move in. Black marks all up the wall which can easily be sorted but they obviously don't care. The shower was pretty pathetic. The 'free continental breakfast' was white toast, bad muesli, coffee and orange juice- not continental breakfast at all! The non-English speaking staff just stood their chatting away, not clearing tables as they should be. My sister had to politely ask them to clear our table. After, they stared at us and made us feel uncomfortable.
For the price, you would expect a better standard. The only pro was that is was close to Earls court station.

I was very tired by the end of the week - and didn't look forward to the prospect of a forth return trip to London in five days, so decided to spend one night in an economy hotel and recharge my batteries.

The Garden View Hotel is within a five minute walk of Earls Court underground station - making it easily accessible following my meeting in the House of Lords. It was a simple trip of about 15 mins along the District Line.

The hotel is accessed via a small flight of steps - awkward for the less able or those with large and heavy luggage.

The check in experience was fast and efficient. The room was clean and tidy, though small. The tiny shower room was . . . tiny. I could hardly close the door to squeeze through to the shower. But it was clean. No plug for the sink. The shower didn't drain efficiently. Water was hot. Lighting for shaving was good. Hair dryer somewhat redundant for my needs.

Kettle and cups for tea making. Phone. Limited space for storage. Not even space for a bedside table. One jaded chair. No area for writing.

Nice enough view.

The bed was quite comfortable - a double. The TV was on a side wall, with an orientation not that appropriate for comfortable viewing from bed. But, I was that tired, I didn't really care.

The area adjacent to the hotel includes a range of shops, supermarkets and restaurants - far enough away so that the hotel doesn't suffer a lot of traffic noise, but close enough to allow for convenience shopping.

Breakfast was included, though not much. But then, the hotel was booked through a major booking site, and at a massive discount (about half the quoted tariff) so, I was happy enough.

The overall experience - It was certainly better than a three hour trip home, an unsatisfactory night at home and a three hour early morning return trip to Westminster.

I might be back next week if I'm as tired!

Room Tip: My room was to the front of the hotel, with a pleasant view of the square and gardens. There is no p...

The best things about the Garden View are the location and the Wi-Fi. Five-minute walk to the Earls Court Tube station, closer to the Warwick Road entrance across from the Earls Court Exhibition Centre. I called home to the US using Viber, and the quality was crystal clear. On the call to Asia we had to talk and then pause to hear what the other person had just said. But that was also true on a US-to-Asia call before I left home.

Otherwise, if you're not a budget traveler, then this place isn't for you. The breakfast is as limited as others have said; my travel companion is diabetic and couldn't eat only carbs. Elevator/lift can hold only either two people, or one person and one suitcase at a time. Twin room not big enough for large suitcases. Beds were old; ours had mattress toppers. Bathroom we had to step up into; and if the lights stayed on long enough it got really hot in there.

Another consideration is that maintenance is on-site only during the week, 9-5. If a problem happens on the weekend, you may have to wait till Monday to get it fixed.
