Well we have been going to Borough Market for years and my partner has grown up in London and I'm always amazed by all the little hideaways he knows about, However I managed to trump him with this little find.. It is a gorgeous little pub a little hideaway from the hustle and bustle of Borough and London Bridge.. It is heaving with locals and it a great sun trap. We liked it soo much we visited it before we left London too.. the chips are too dye for.. but shhh tell no one!!

Oldest galleried coaching inn in London with association to Shakespeare and Dickens. Such a shame only the southern wing survives but a must see for history and literary fans. The beer was OK too

Found this place having just been up the Shard. Lovely ancient pub with a large urban courtyard slightly let down by the modern buildings framing the other two sides of the yard. Excellent beer, good food, reasonable value, v pleasant waitresses. Rather let down by the attitude of the barmen. Clearly they thought that being offhand and dismissive to customers whilst sharing inside jokes amongst themselves constitutes good customer service. If the waitresses think they're being under tipped, then they might look to the barmen getting their act together so that when they proffer the card payment device which prompts one for a tip, one might be inclined to give one.

My son and I had not particularly intended to have a meal here, we called in because of the history. The courtyard was very busy on a hot day so we decided to go up to the balcony first. We were greeted by a lovely lady as soon as we walked into the extremely charming room out of another era, and we ordered our drinks. The menu in the form of a parchment was on the table and we decided to try the food. My son had the chicken wrapped in bacon and I chose the duck with walnut salad and cranberry. Both meals were served promptly and were absolutely delicious. The staff and the general ambience were first class, a very relaxing experience. After the meal we had a wander around downstairs into the other bars. I would recommend the George Inn for a very pleasant drink/meal

We were unable to get a fish fry--they ran out, but the beer was cold and just fine. Bar staff was efficient, although not very outgoing
