Stayed at this hotel on Sat 12th May as attending the Westlife concert at the O2. First impressions were great, close to tube and O2, very clean and lovely staff on reception for check in. Room was pleasant enough, although there were 4 adults in the room and not really enough pillows or tea/coffee facilities for 4 people and sofa bed is very small for 2 adults, but was clean. The fun began when we returned after the concert. We decided to have a drink in the bar, there was one barman attempting to make hot chocolates for another customer but he had no idea how to do this or work the machine. He eventually had to ask the customer to help him (after about 6 attempts!) The till had jammed shut so he was unable to conduct any transactions! The manager was ignoring the barmans attempts to serve people and would not help when he was asked. By this time there were lots of people waiting to be served so I asked the manager myself to serve us - 20 minutes later we managed to get our 4 drinks from him!!!! 1 coffee, 1 J20, and 2 glasses of wine - he also couldn''t work the coffee machine, he smashed the glass for the J2o, and could only find one wine glass !! He disappeared for ages trying to find more then they were all filthy!! Then of course the till was still jammed - basically 45 minutes in all before we got drinks - madness, and there were a lot of very irate customers that the manager just chose to ignore - he just seemed totally out of his depth.
In the room, our bedside lights would not turn on - when the main lights were switched off every light went off and was actually funny as we had to feel our way through the dark to get to bed - we tried and tried to ring reception but no-one answered - glad it wasn't an emergency!
At 8am - the maid was knocking on the door to clean the room !!!!! Ermmmmmm whyyyyy!!!
Went to breakfast - another pantomime - all that was available was beans (that were cold) - eventually some bread came out and a few croissants - only one coffee machine was working. 2 of us got a slice of toast and 2 of us had a cold croisssant !!!!
Went back to our room (still hungry) to pack and the maid was knocking again to clean the room - this was 10am !!!! She was quite rude when asked if she had been knocking earlier - surely she should have a list of who has checked out - but then again if the manager who was on duty the night before was in charge i am not surprised no-one knew what they were doing.
For a hotel chain as big as Holiday Inn i was appalled at the standard of service and with the 2012 Olympics being held so near this hotel it is quite disturbing !
The reception staff were lovely though but there are some serious management and training issues within this hotel that need to be addressed. |I will certainly not return to this specific hotel but have stayed in many other HI Ex hotels and never had any issues, so feel it is only the management of this hotel that is lacking in many areas. It is a shame as it is perfectly located for the O2 etc.
