I had never been to Brixton Academy before so didn't really know what to expect, but it was amazing, I will definitely go back. Its so easy to get to with buses stopping right outside the venue and the tube a few minutes down the road. There are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby too on the whole a great central location. Inside there's plenty of space and a bar, toilets are right inside the reception area - my tip go before you find a space for your concert as the queues get pretty long after! There is seating upstairs but personally I think the view is better standing downstairs, the floor has a gentle slope to it so you get a good view wherever you are. You really do feel immersed in the music and the atmosphere is amazing.

My tips! Do drink before you go in - Security don't like you having your own water or gum inside. Do visit the toilets before your event - for reasons already discussed! Don't feel you have to take a bag ladies, security will search it and you lose moments finding a good spot while they do. Do wear a loose light top especially if you're dancing - there is air con but it struggled against a full house and lights etc. And don't head straight for the bar - again you'll lose moments queuing for a drink you can get outside afterwards while the good viewing spots are taken.

I'll certainly be going back.

I have been many times (even worked there decades ago) and went last night and some things never change. The Academy still rules! Easy to get to via tube, Brixton or Stockwell, Stockwell tube has less of a crush as most people head towards Brixton. Plenty of places to eat/drink first. Unless you want to stand at the stage give it half an hour from doors opening till you turn up and you pretty much just walk in no queue. There is seating upstairs but most people buy tickets to stand downstairs (same price). It is shoulder to shoulder most nights so comfy footwear a must! The beer is rough and over-priced, same as always. If needed there is limited wheelchair space to the back left hand side. I have found most of the tour t-shirts on sale for £20 to be very thin and over the years seem to have gotten worse, I bought 2 last night LOL However on most nights I have bought t-shirts after the show too from the street sellers and they are like £5-10 each and sometimes much better quality. There are several toilets spread out and sometimes it may be worth going upstairs or looking around to find the quietest one as some (the womens especially) can have queues. All in all a top night, the door people do not like you to bring gum and if seen chewing you will be asked to remove it when entering as people spit their gum out onto the carpet, yuk! Oh the cloakroom can be crowded at the end so grab your coats a little early to save a looonng queue at the end of the night :)

I love this place one of my favorite venues for gigs!!! Easy to get to and from with bars and restaurants nearby, but if you want to get drunk do it somewhere else the drinks are VERY expensive inside!!
The stage view is excellent, this is a rare venue where the floor is on a gradient so even if your at the back you still get an excellent view - recommended!
