Owner description: Hackney Empire is a special building in a special place - a unique variety theatre for the 21st century. Embracing both local and global communities of artists and audiences, it is determined to nurture and present work that is at once extraordinary, inclusive, inspirational and transformative. Musical theatre and opera, family shows, music and comedy together with local events and an extensive and inclusive programme of workshops and courses, form the heart of the Hackney Empire's work.

Went to see Puss In Boots just before Christmas with another set of grandchildren. Having been utterly disappointed by a pantomime in the Hall for Cornwall, I was dreading the night. What a surprise. A thoroughly enjoyable evening with an excellent cast, witty script and good audience participation.
We were in the dress circle, and the only problem was for the kids trying to see the stage without some adults head in the way. Drinks are expensive - and for some inexplicible reason - they 'ran out' of tap water for the kids. Was this a cynical ploy for us to buy more expensive drinks?
Overall, it was a brilliant night, and, most of al,l the kids had a great time. They're still running around with their cat masks going 'mieow - mieow'. Well done Hackney !!

Had the annual family visit to the Panto. As usual not bad but the audience has changed over the years so the ackney jokes may take a while to catch up.Unfortunately spoilt by truly the worst bottle of wine ever at the modest price of £26.00 for cheapo, cheapo. I know you have the middle classes there but why screw them?

The fun an enjoyable in the Company og professional actors was the Jewel in the crown and well
worth the trip from Denmark - and my 7 year old granddaughter loved every minute even though she has a limited understanding of English. After seeing the show, one of her first remarks was
when can see the DVD.
Thankyou Hackney Empire for keeping the panto tradition alive AND well!

Scarily 21 kids and 21 adults descended on hackney empire on friday night for this performance. We paid extra for circle tickets and ended up being upgraded to dress circle. Great seats for the kids. This was like a west end performance in the east end. Great interaction with the audience. The kids loved it and so did the parents. This is definitely on my to do list for next year. Runs until beginning of Jan would recommend this definitely worth every penny and we had a great laugh at the characters. The last song they do with the audience was a hoot!!!!

Having driven 90 miles to see a show at The Empire, we thought that a bite in the theatre cafe would be a good idea. At 6.30 in the evening all that was on offer were a couple of stale rolls, poor quality cake and crisps. Poor show, particularly when The Picture House across the road offers a full menu in bright and friendly surroundings.

That said, the theatre is a gem though I would like to see the tradition of the stalls bar remaining open during the show re-established. The theatre was, I believe, the first to do this and make a great link back to the music hall tradition.

Sad to say, the theatre staff were not very friendly - could do better.
