everything was good at this hotel, from the room to the breakfast and the wifi. It is well positioned near the subway and has a direct bus to canary warf departing nearby. Housekeeping was very kind and efficient as I lost a pair of keys in the room when i checked out and they shipped it to me free of charge, really appreciated that.

Great location, right next to Aldgate East underground station and near good restaurants and pubs. Rooms are quiet and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant is currently undergoing a refurbishment, but the food is good and well priced. It's not a fancy hotel, but good value for money.

Given the fact that its as close to central London without breaking the bank, Ibis London City was a pretty good choice. Right next to a Tesco and Aldgate East tube station, although the street itself is rather nondescript. The rooms were clean, the bathrooms were really just meant for 1 person but it served its purpose. Decent all round.

Now, on to the areas for improvement. London had a cold front for the 2 days we were staying, and the heating didn't work at all. I had it turned up all the way to 30 degrees Celsius, and it felt as if only the fan on the AC unit was working, but blowing cold air. This would ordinarily have been fine even in March temperatures, except that I was severely ill with a stomach flu and was running a high fever.

Next, having been ill all evening and not able to drop off my excess luggage with a London friend before heading off to France, I asked if the reception could hold it for me for 2 days, as a favour in an emergency, since it would have been inconvenient to lug it all over France on business. Unfortunately, the receptionist was not only quick to reject my request, but was also immediately dismissive that I had even been sick. Given that her English was heavily accented, it was also difficult to labour through her explanation of why hotel policy did not allow her to do so.

So, only stay here if your trip is absolutely going to be standard and all goes well and nothing bad happens to you. Ibis London City is definitely a decent hotel. But these are just not people who will go the extra mile to help you in a lurch. For that, you probably have to pay through the nose.

I stayed here for a quick business trip and chose it based on proximity to conference location and reasonable price. It is just what you would expect from the Ibis chain - clean and comfortable but no frills. It is right next to the Aldgate East Tube station and a short walk to both Spitalfields Market (5 minutes) and Tower of London (15 minutes). The hotel restaurant had better than expected offerings and food quality. Free wi-fi is a nice perk as well.

We stayed for one night.

Room: Standard room, clean and tidy. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was a little plastic but spotless and shower was great. View = building site, but luckily no noise.
Location: Just round the corner to the tube and a short walk to Liverpool street station. We booked the hotel generally on location and price.
Noise: Quietish, just general London sounds.
Staff: OK, wasn’t the best welcome but were polite and informative.
WIFI: Free and good.
Price: For central London I thought it was a great price.

Overall: Great location and price.

Hotel was clean and comfortable, breakfast was good with nice views from the 8th floor. It was also very close to the tube station making it ideal for our weekend theatre break. The only down side was the queue to check out in the morning.

Room Tip: You get better views from the higher floors.
