“Spacious Facilities and Great Service in a Perfect Location”
Reviewed 14 January 2014

My extended family visited 51 Buckingham Gate for a week between Christmas and New Year's. The service was perfect both pre-arrival and after check in- the concierge staff was very helpful with booking dining and transport reservations, and the staff went out of their way to ensure our group was comfortable throughout our visit. We loved the central location, and found that we were able to walk to many attractions rather than take the tube or a taxi. This gave us a much better sense of how London is laid out. The 2 bedroom apartments are very spacious, and our local family who visited us noted that they'd be happy to live in such a beautiful space in Westminster.

Wow.. we loved this hotel/ apartment. The welcome was fabulous and they made us feel very comfortable, which was all you need after more than 30 hours travelling. The entrance to the hotel was a little hard for our cabbie to find (it's right next door to The Copthorne- down an arched driveway) But once we were checked in (smoothly) and taken to our room on the 6th floor we knew we were in the right place for our 6 days in London (our bedroom even overlooked Buckingham Palace) The 2 bedroom suite was perfect for my family of 2 adults and 2 older teenagers, with 2 large bedrooms, our own bathrooms and a lounge/ dining/ kitchen. The addition of a washer -dryer and Nespresso coffee machine was a Godsend. After our massive days on our feet and sightseeing (Buckingham Palace is literally 4 minutes aways) the beds were divine. The MOST comfortable of our trip. The furnishings were so luxurious, we felt like royalty,. We couldn't fault anything about the suite. There was a short (less than 5 minute walk) to St James Park or Victoria tube station. There were plenty of pubs around for dinner and the area felt very safe- a short walk takes you to a great shopping area. The only issue we experienced- and it was beyond the hotels control and I believe being rectified was that the hotel serves the most delicious breakfasts in their breakfast room, The Library- think hunting lodge with a wonderful roaring fire. Unfortunately, it was too small on weekends to accommodate all of their guests so the overflow are escorted next door to The Copthorne, which served an OK breakfast but not the outstanding one you get from 51 Buckingham Gate.
This hotel was our first hotel for our 6 week Europe vacation and became the benchmark for all of our next hotels, and it had set the bar high....too high for some. Would I recommend this hotel? ...in a heartbeat! And I hope I get the chance to stay here again sometime in the future.

Room Tip: I'm certain all of the rooms are equally superb. We liked being on the 6th floor but be prepared...

I thank you for your kind comments on your experiences staying at 'Taj 51 Buckingham Gate. I am delighted to read how much you enjoyed visiting and how highly you value the service from my team, the amviance and the location.

We are continuing to improve our two newly branded London hotels James' Court, A Taj Hotel and Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences. The hotels will now be promoted within the Taj Group's portfolio of luxury hotels, resorts and palaces, and the Taj Group has sole ownership and management, as well as operational and marketing control of both properties.
As I write to you we are renovating a full townhouse 'Kings' Taj 51 Buckingham Gate which should be ready by May 2014. The Library area for breakfast is being extended towards 'Falconers' and soon we will have a quaint large but cozy dining area for your comfort
as well as a larger Reception and Concierge desk to create better space for our guest.

I hope to see you again soon.

Kind Regards

It was our first trip to London and we wanted to stay somewhere that would accommodate our family of four, (kids 10 and 11) have great service and where we could easily walk to attractions or to the tube for further attractions. Everything in this hotel was exceptional from the concierge staff to the suite type of room (2 bedrooms, a living room and small kitchen), to the complimentary breakfast daily...my kids still talk about the Belgian waffles that were out of this world delicious! We also loved sitting in the library in front of the fireplace in the evenings. They served cocktails and delicious snacks. We have stayed in some beautiful hotels before but this was the best by far. If you are comparing prices of other hotels, keep in mind so many things are included....coffee in the room, bottled water, a beautiful full breakfast as well as evening drinks/apps are all complimentary. Those things add up to make it even more a wonderful value. There are many different room options but having 2 bedrooms was the way to go for us!

As everyone has said, the service was beyond expectation. It was almost disconcerting, I don't think I've ever had staff appear to really really want to do right by you across the board for six days straight! We arrived early in the morning off an overnight, international flight and they went through much trouble to get us into a room early. The room was an enormous 1 BR suite and they brought in an extra bed for our 9 year old. It was one of the nicest rooms we've had and simply astounding for London. A full kitchen, fabulous Nespresso machine, and a washing machine!! My husband often travels for business in London and we've usually stayed at Le Meridian in Piccadilly. The service there is stand offish, we've had run of the mill issues there and were always greeted with a feeling of general annoyance that they were asked to help you with anything and the rooms don't begin to compare to these. We will certainly continue to stay here!
The older gentleman who runs the breakfast room was outstandingly attentive, kind to children, highly perceptive about the needs of those in the room, keeping younger staff always on task...really impressive. The breakfast is a full menu from which you can order, so it is lovely to have filling, protein rich options in an "inclusive" breakfast for a change. There was also some construction work happening in the lobby area and the workers were the friendliest, most careful and considerate I've ever seen too. They also left notes in everyone's room to please let them know if you ever felt at all inconvenienced by the noise...and with the overall level of service, I believe they sincerely would have helped out!

We greatly enjoyed our stay. We had a 2 bedroom/2 bath falconer suite with all the luxuries of home! The short walk proximity to Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Churchill War Rooms, etc was fabulous. The beds were luxurious, coffee in room was yummy, TV, VCR and sound system superb, sofa was comfy, washer/dryer a plus, and staff more than helpful!! The garden courtyard is beautiful and all restaurants excellent. After long days of London, Bath and Stonehenge tours, to come "home" and chill out was special! We often cancelled our other dinner reservations and ate at the restaurants at the hotel and even ordered room service which serve a large variety from the hotel restaurants.

We've just returned from a two-night stay at 51 Buckingham Gate and I was gutted to leave.
Our stay was actually a complimentary competition prize and we were expecting perhaps not the finest service because we weren't paying for it.
We could not have been more wrong though. The staff consistently went out of their way to make sure we were having the best time we could.
Plenty has been said about how lovely the accomodation is - one bedroomed suite with a Nespresso machine, air conditioning, Molten Brown toiletries and excellent entertainment system. There were other little touches too. A newspaper in the morning, happy hour in the library with free drinks and canapes, a DVD library you could borrow from which came with popcorn and soft drinks.
This is an expensive five star hotel but unlike many they didn't try to squeeze every drop of money out of you they could. The staff were so nice yet not overbearing. One night we asked for a DVD which we planned to collect on our way back from a drink in one of the hotel's bars. They came to find us when they discovered they didn't have it - they wanted to make sure we could choose something else.
A wonderful place to stay, I would move in tomorrow!
