The Wesley Hotel & Conference Venue
Ranked #479 of 1,077 Hotels in London
Reviewed 11 February 2014

I have reviewed this hotel before [1], so this is an update after staying there a few more times.

The hotel's limitations are easy to enumerate:
- some rooms are small, especially the single rooms
- their website is no good for booking (unless they've rejigged things recently)
- their free newspaper offering is very limited (no FT)
- that's about it really

The good points and more important:
- the food is very good. Staying in London I no longer worry about where I'm going to eat;
- most of the staff are very welcoming and helpful. The place has a very special relaxing atmosphere;
- I sleep here far better than I've slept anywhere else in London (including many much more expensive hotels).

Highly recommended unless you are fussy or need a large room.

Ivan

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and posting such a positive review! I am extremely delighted that we exceeded your expectations. Yes we have great food and our website is much better now with many offerings.

We have created in this space some of the most comfortable bedrooms rooms that compete favourably with five stars hotels in London. We have rooms in all sizes to give our guests a wide choice.

JZ from London wrote recently, “A great hotel in a good location close to the tube and mainline stations for easy access with luggage and then travel into the centre. This is the second time I have stayed here. The rooms are modern and nicely furnished with a good size bathroom. They have all the little extras which make a short or long stay more enjoyable, including internet in the room, complimentary toiletries, bottles of water, hair-dryer by a mirror, laptop sized safe and an ironing board! The staff are very polite and helpful to meet any requests you have. For breakfast there is a wide choice - and the staff are very happy to help with eggs cooked to order from the hot buffet. Overall I would recommend this hotel for all travellers - business and pleasure.

And MarK Edward from Dudley writes, “Having booked a Double Deluxe room through Hotels.com for a long weekend in London for my partners birthday, a short telephone conversation ensured a complementary upgrade to a superb Junior Suite. The room was modern, spacious and meticulously presented. The birthday card and complimentary fruit waiting for us upon arrival was a great personal touch. The selection of tea and coffee along with individual snack biscuits along with two free bottles of water every day once again made the difference between an average stay and one to remember. Excellent choice of freshly cooked items for breakfast along with copious amounts of fresh salmon and other options for the none meat eaters. 10 out of 10 all round for this little gem right on Euston stations doorstep. We will be returning without a shadow of a doubt.”

A social enterprise like ours thrives on the positive messages from people like yourselves. As you may have learnt from us during your stay, we are the first ethical hotel in the UK. What that means is that we aim to provide guests with what we promise, that is quality service and accommodation but also all our profits are gift-aided for the education of deserving students all over the world. We are also extremely carbon-conscious, ethical procurement and waste management.

We look forward to welcoming you back the next time you visit London!

A very pleasant and comfortable hotel located very close to Euston station. Staff were very helpful, and sorted out a room change for me as I found it difficult to sleep on the first night due to noise. Breakfast was excellent and I also had a very nice 3 course meal in the hotel. Desk space and free wifi make it a good choice when working away from home, though desk space was quite small in my second room.

One night stay for work purposes. Booked here based on previous reviews saying it was quiet. My room was on the second floor next to the street - quite a bit of noise from there as well as the corridor outside. Apart from this, perfect for the price. I would stay again though perhaps not if a good sleep was absolutely necessary!

This hotel met my needs in the first instance on being affordable, in a convenient location and including breakfast (a rare thing in London). I booked a single room - it was adequate in size, equipped with all that I needed (although I left the ironing board in the cupboard!) and very comfortable. The shower room was particularly nice. I was not disappointed with the breakfast - far from being the usual 'cooked or continental' choice there was an excellent range of self-service counters - cold, hot, fruit, pastries etc. It was superb! I will certainly be using it again when next in London.

We returned to the Wesley last weekend for a business trip. We hadn’t stayed there for quite a while, since we thought it had gone down hill just a little over the years. However, the hotel has been refurbished again, and we were extremely pleased with our experience.

Staff are friendly and helpful, there is free wi-fi in all the rooms, and it has all the amenities one would want. The bedrooms have generous amounts of coffee sachets, teabags, biscuits etc, and we were pleased to see that all of these are “fair trade” products. The Wesley prides itself in giving a high priority to ethics in its trading. As its name implies, it is a Methodist organisation, but open to the general public.

The Wesley is quite literally a minute’s walk from Euston station, making its location extremely convenient. However, despite being in central London, the place is surprisingly quiet.

The breakfast affords a wide range of food, and that is no extra charge for a cooked breakfast, as opposed to a continental one. We were pleased to find that there were vegetarian sausages in plentiful supply as well as meat ones – something one does not usually come across at hotels.

There is a small bar. We notice that some Trip Advisor reviewers have criticised it on the grounds that it lacks the atmosphere of a traditional bar. We actually welcomed this. It is quiet, generally with only small numbers of residents patronising it, and it is without background music. So it is an ideal place to have a drink with one’s friends, and actually hear what they’re saying! For those who want a traditional pub, there is one across the road, if you can squeeze into it!

Room Tip: Having stayed a few times, we think there is little to choose between different rooms. In the middle...

As said before this hotel is in a great location for Euston railway station and the underground, 2 minuets walk away. There are a couple of decent real ale pubs that do food and 6 or 7 Indian restaurants within 2 minuets of the hotel. Our room, a superior double was spotless, modern, a king size comfortable bed and a good large shower, it had everything you need for a short stay.
The buffet breakfast was excellent and the chap who cooks your eggs to order is a real star, in fact all the staff are helpful and friendly.
The only thing to watch out for is, if you have drinks at the bar and that is going to the bar for them not being waited on, they add a 10% service charge.(only spotted it when I looked at the receipt later that night) Seeing the drinks are over priced, as they are in hotels I thought this was a bit much - moan over. I would recommend this hotel and I would stay here again........wouldn't use the bar again though!!!!!!

This hotel is all about location, location and location! It's literally 2 minute walking from Euston Station which is one of the main stations of train and subway. We could get almost everywhere (to Oxford Street, Westminster or Nottinghill) within ten minutes. Just in front of the station and close to the hotel you can find several restaurantes and bars for a quick lunch, dinner or drinks.
The staff at the hotel is attentive and helpfull. The bedrooms are clean and confortable although we have been given a very small room, with a very small bed in the first floor. If we were a bit larger people, we could have been unconfortable overnight. Besides, sometimes we could here some noise from the turbines and also from the subway.
The ameneties in the rooms are good and the breakfast, despite being in a self service style offers you a reasonable choice of cold and hot items.
I could stay here again.
