I was expecting much less for such a price so was pleasantly surprised (based on pictures of similarly-priced hotels in the area).
The room was renovated and very nice, though small. The shower was fine and beds were comfortable.
The only drawback was that had a couple of technical issues with our room - such as one of the radiators was broken. Those issues were only solved during the day so we had to spend our first night in rather cold conditions.
In addition they charge for luggage storage which i always find annoying.

I did enjoy my stay at the Melville. At first I was a little worried because I've stayed at other hotels in the area that were extremely dingy (and one in particular had a terrible smell!) for the same price. But I was pleasantly surprised as the whole place had been recently remodeled and the facilities were quite nice actually. Free wifi was included and that worked well. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom clean and everything was overall in very good condition. The only drawback was that it was a very small room but having staying in London and similar cities before like NYC so that is to be expected. Also I had a rear alley-facing room and would have preferred a front courtyard-facing room but even that was ok. Basically the hotel is not a destination in itself but if looking just for a place to sleep while staying in London then it's certainly acceptable.

Considering everything it was a quite good return for the price that I paid. I would definitely stay here again if travelling solo again on the same budget.

Room Tip: See if you can get a front courtyard-facing room!

In search of a one-night stop for a concert trip, the Melville distinguishes itself by having genuine Single rooms. Part of a small group of hotels in the KX area, I found it to be clean, tidy, and far better than i expected for a non-chain, back-street hotel in the area. The front of the hotel faces onto Argyle Square, and although it's barely 150 metres from the perpetually busy Euston Road, there's little or no traffic noise. It's an easy walk of 150-200 metres from KX station.

The room I had appeared to have natural wood flooring, a bed that the welcome pack said was sourced from local suppliers, and a neat slatted and framed blind over the traditional sash and case window. In-room safe, a kettle and a couple of cups are supplied, but it appears you need to bring your own tea, coffee, sugar et al. The bed was comfortable, the linens clean, and although I was a solo guest, two large fluffy bath towels were supplied. Bathroom soap and shower gel are supplied from wall-mounted dispensers. The bathroom was compact, with an excellent shower. A small desk area and chair were in place, and there was a small clothes hanging unit and some shelving. Small rooms, but they have the essentials.

This hotel, along with many others in the area, has been converted in the past from residential accommodation, and the sound isolation isn't the same as modern, purpose-built hotels, where you absolutely cannot hear a thing from neighbouring rooms. If you're likely to be upset by hearing footfall or conversation from rooms above and to the side, take your earplugs.

Keys for rooms are in the form of traditional door keys with fobs, and are handed in on leaving, and collected on return to the hotel. The only contact I had with staff was at check-in, key drop on leaving/collection on return, and at check-out. All very pleasant. I found some minor maintenance issues which I'll raise with the hotel, but they're not serious enough to warrant mention here.

I didn't breakfast at the hotel, as I knew in advance this was served in a different building. There's plenty of options in the KX and St Pancras stations.

In short, very pleased with my stay, and I'd definitely return again.

We had a pleasant stay in this nice and cosy hotel, near Kings Cross Station. The room was small, but convenient. The bathroom was even smaller, but the shower was marvelous! The staff of the hotel was very friendly and helpful, super. WE did not have breakfast in the hotel, bit enough opportunities in the area.

Room Tip: Our room was in de sousterrain, we experienced some voice from the lobby above.

The staff were friendly on arrival and the room was of high quality, maybe slightly noisy, but this is central London you can't expect countryside silence. The bed was very confortable and the TV well placed. Clean en-suite and reasonable space to move around, for the price it was actually very impressive. I have been to far worse in London i know that much. The location is perfect, a couple of minutes walk from Kings Cross Station allowing you good access to many parts of London.

Dear Guest

Thanks for your review and taking the time to let our potential guests know about your experience.

The hotel is positioned in the heart of central London and just behind the busy Euston Road; given that we are surprisingly quiet.

Really glad you enjoyed our Pocket Sprung Hypnos mattress with its Luxury Mattress Topper also by Hypnos.

Thanks again for your feedback.

This hotel is perfectly located in the centre of London, its close to to the station so easy to get around and for a very reasonable price....the staff are friendly and rooms clean and tidy...you can't really ask for anything more.
Much cheaper than any travel lodge located this close in the city and in my option well worth the stay...xXx
