Owner description: The Village has become a firm fixture on Soho's gay scene since opening in 1991. The Village was the first of its kind to be opened in London and since then there have been dozens of bars who have copied its successful formula. The Village really does offer something for everyone 'all under one roof'. The upstairs 'Soho Bar' dance floor is where all the snap crackling pop, chart and commercial dance action happens, with residents Heidi Liscious & Robyn Banks, plus our gorgeous gogo boys on the bar! Descend into the basement club, where you'll find the best in chunky funky deep house & tech with the cream of London's dance scene DJ's, Paul Heron, Gordon John, Massimo Paramour, JJ Gullo & Gonzalo Rivas on rotation. Through to the 'Cafe bar' you'll find a more relaxed vibe with lots of seating & comfy booths. Further more, head upstairs to the new 'Cocktail Lounge' where you'll find another bar with luxurious booths, chandeliers and a stunning view of all the action right up Old Compton Street. We are now open from 3pm on Friday, Saturday & Sunday, and you are also very welcome to take your drinks al fresco onto Brewer Street where you can drink in the afternoon sun :) Pop in & say hi!

“Rude door staff. Appalling service. Go elsewhere.”

I agree with the comments of s-aint2005 and Teri A below, unless you are a fit gay man forget it, you won’t get in and will be treated with contempt by the people on the door. Doesn’t Village promote itself as a mixed gay bar?!!

I had arranged to meet with a group of 10 friends at this bar, when refused entry without any valid reason we went onto Admiral Duncan down the road, which is mainly aimed at gay males and we as a mixed group were very warmly welcomed there, received excellent service all night and between us put a lot of money in their till. Village Soho’s loss…serves them right.

Don’t bother with this bar, spend your well earned money in one of the many better and more welcoming bars in Soho where you will be treated as a valued customer and have a better night rather than quite frankly be embarrassed and insulted by the random, quite possibly discriminatory and very rude door policies of Village Soho. Avoid this place at all costs!

I would like to sincerely apologise if you feel that you have had a bad experience at Village.
Our aim is to provide only the best customer experience and service.

I have spoken to the manager on duty that night, who was stationed at the front door at the time.
I feel that I need to explain that all of our entry policies at the venue are set on the advice and following from discussions with Westminster council and the police.
We also have a view of maintaining the venue’s identity and integrity - as we have done for the past 21 years .
As such, we as licensees fully reserve the right to refuse admission for any reason.
Although the policies may sometimes seem unfair to some, they are considered best practice for the venue and the customers inside at that time.

Every licensed venue, be that gay or straight, has a specific door policy which is drawn from advice from the local authorities and police.
Both are therefore fully aware of the policies at Village and continue to support and commend us on our safe and diligent working operation.

I can assure you that any licensed venue, irrespective of the established sexual orientation of its patrons, has an obligation to make reactive decisions on the door of who is admitted entry depending on the people already inside the venue. This is to maintain the desired atmosphere and dynamic of the night.
I can also assure you that each policy and decisions made regarding entry will differ from venue to venue.
Any venue has to keep a sensible balance of male/female patrons inside(and I’m sure that you will agree that in a gay bar this is particularly prevalent). They all, however, serve the same purpose – to stay true the individual venue’s identity and integrity - as well as regarding the safety and enjoyment of the patrons already inside at that particular time.

It is very clear in your email that you believe the reason for you and your friends not being admitted was because of your sexual orientation. Your sexual orientation (apart from being no one’s business but your own) was in no way involved in the decision process on the night and it never would.

All of this aside, your refusal of entry on the night was not intended to upset or cause offence in any way. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that the correct call is always made, but on this occasion I am satisfied that the correct call was indeed made.

However, we hope that this incident has not deterred you from returning to the Village and we look forward to seeing you in the near future.
Kind regards
Stuart

“Great bar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2013

This is a great bar in the heart of Soho, in which most evenings are packed. Spread over three floors, it is friendly and attitude free. The music is good and the bar staff friendly and efficient. Don't forget there is happy hour every night until 8pm which makes it even better value. Whenever we're in London we always make a point of coming here to start the evening off.

“A fantastic & fun night!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2013

I went here with my wife last night and what a night we had. Felt really comfortable and at home. Thought that the male dancers were great fun - didn't take themselves too seriously, and their presence really enhanced the night. Also, I've attached a photo of one of the dancers doing the splits on the ceiling - amazing.

The caipirinha's were lovely. Stayed on them all night as they were that good.

What was a real surprise was how friendly the customers were in there, spent 4 hours chatting to absolutely lovely people who I'd never met before but they felt like friends by the end of the night. Haven't ever met so many nice people on a night out before.

The music was great but what I liked was that I could still have a conversation.

This bar is also a lot bigger than it appears from the outside. An L shaped bar with another cool looking area downstairs.

Finally the staff were great, really quick drinks service and the manager Stuart was a lovely guy as well. He was another person I remember having a good chat with.

“Really friendly, fun gay bar!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2013

Went to The Village last night and had the best night! It was a really friendly fun crowd and the manager, Stuart was great - so welcoming! Loved the male dancers (in their pants woohoo!) and the DJ that smelt of strawberries. It had the atmosphere of a party, everyone was chatting to everyone and by the time I left, it felt like I had made lots of new friends there. Downstairs is a little club while upstairs is a quieter area for sitting, chilling and chatting. Would love to go again, really is a little gem of a place.
