We stayed at the Glenlyn just after Christmas, and booked it last minute. It is located well for places of interest in North London such as Alexandra Palace, which is only a 134 bus and a bit of a walk away. We booked last minute as we were due to watch the PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace and needed accommodation due to the forecast storm, and train problems.

The location is fair (just off the high street) with good travel routes to central and North London. The staff were very polite, and it's a 24hr hotel meaning no creeping in and awkward conversations with the staff after hours as can sometimes be the case. The rooms were an OK size for a short stay. Free WIFI and off street parking was also greatly appreciated.

The double room we stayed in didn't have the most comfortable bed, and the room was a little dated, but it had character. We had a problem with the radiator in room 29, but it was late and we basically only washed and slept in our room due to the short duration of our stay. Because of that we didn't complain. The building is impressive and the local rotary club meet there. The Glenlyn also offer complimentary English or continental breakfast in the conservatory area to the rear of the building.

In all, I would stay here again at short notice, or overnight, due to it's location, value and polite staff. If staying for more than one or two nights I would probably look for something a little roomier, and modern. I think it's good value for money though.

Okay, so people say you get what you pay for. We paid £85 per night for the two of us b&b. So I guess that's not going to break the bank. Positives - staff pleasant enough, free parking, not that far for a public transport. Breakfast was ok, more fruit would be good. Negatives - Finchley is not that close to central London so I am not sure about price against more centrally located places. Decor - shockingly old and outdated. This place is big enough to be a reputable well presented independent hotel, but needs investment. Old carpets/walls/bathroom, Small bed in small room 25 makes the place feel like faulty towers.

As we were visiting Harry Potter Studios at the end of the weekend we needed somewhere close and with free parking. Glenlyn served both these needs and was incredibly cheap compared to its peers so we booked. What a great decision! It is easy to get to as we avoided the London congestion. The room was lovely and very clean. The reception was 24 hour so when we arrived back at 1am (on the second to last tube on a Saturday night) we were let straight back in. You can see the tube station down the street from the hotel and the walk is at most 5 minutes making getting into London very easy. The breakfast in the morning had everything you could want. I myself was partial to the excellent bacon and sausages but there were tons of cereals, croissants etc. The hotel was fully booked while we there so don't delay in booking if you're considering it.

Perhaps we got the small, dud room in this hotel—it was not like those pictured on the website and in their brochure. Clean, but needed paint on the scratched doors. A pleasure to find a hotel room with windows that open, and we appreciated the full-sized tub-shower in the otherwise small bathroom. The breakfast room is nice, and looks out on a lovely garden. Friendly staff and off-street parking a plus.

I booked this based on other TripAdvisor reviews and certainly wasn't disappointed. My telephone enquiry was dealt with quickly and politely and email confirmation quickly followed. Upon arrival the receptionist was very welcoming and extremely helpful, giving me advice on local restaurants and shops. My room was large and clean with good quality bed linen and ... a most welcome surprise ... proper big fluffy towels. Proper sized bath towels, not those tiny little hand towels you get in other places but big wrap yourself-in towels to dry yourself. Breakfast was a generous help-yourself with plenty to choose from and helpful and polite service. It's details like that which mean I will certainly stay here again (have already booked for January). Well done Glenlyn.

We have just come back from a weekend stay at the Glenlyn guesthouse. What a wonderful find! Parking free. The staff were brilliant ,the rooms were clean ,warm, quiet and comfortable as well as well equipped and modern. The breakfast was delicious with a choice of croissants, buns, cereal, fruit, yogurt and full cooked breakfast. Its a five minute walk from the tube station in a very safe and well lit area. Its also located near to a variety of restaurants - Indian,Thai,Italian,Greek if you prefer to stay in the area. Sainsburys is also 2 minutes away if you have forgotten anything for your stay. 25 minute walk to cinema too. Overall a fantastic stay and will be booking again.

Room Tip: We were in an attic room - no 18. Can hear traffic noise slightly but very quiet otherwise.

The Glenlyn is a hidden jewel. Location is superb if you want to be on the Northern Line. A few minutes walk away. The staff are most curtious and helpful. The rooms are most comfortable. The breakfast are served in a beautiful room faces the rear garden. A magnificent sight to go along with the wonderful breakfast. The High Street is only a few steps away. The price of the room are really a bargain! It is our favorite location for when we have to be in North London!

Room Tip: I think all of the rooms are most comfortable.
