I've just had coffee and pastries here and they are brilliant. The food also looks amazing. I would recommend you stop by here rather than your chain coffee shop for a refreshment pit stop.

I am staggered and a little honoured to be the first to apparently review this fantastic small Greek cafe-restaurant. On the sunny side of Marylebone's George Street, simple, hearty, delicious home-made fare awaits you - and I have been beckoned by dozens of such satisfying lunches in the past year.

Top of my list is the £6.95 plate, which you choose with the help of your charming server and which comprises a choice of one of chicken breast/meatballs/salmon fillet/lasagne/etc, which can be heated, and three salads, which could be green/lentil/orzo/bean/beetroot/dolmas/tabbouleh/tomato - and indeed many more!

Nicest of all, you are then handed your cutlery wrapped in a napkin, left in peace to find a place to sit (tables for two inside and out, a big bench for communal or sole dining), eat and help yourself to a tumbler of water from a dresser against one wall. Only after you have finished, or want to order some coffee, are you then asked to pay. Card payment is welcomed. Lunchtime does not follow a strict set of timings and so good food is still available after the usual 12 - 2pm rush. Breakfast and afternoon snacks are also available.

The espresso is excellent (most places still struggle to do this simple pleasure well!) and fresh juices also highly recommended, although quite expensive as an accompaniment to a meal. Takeaway is also an option for all food/drink and, given how popular this lovely place is becoming, sometimes a sensible move. Greek groceries and treats are available to purchase from displays around the simply-furnished, contemporary room.

Forget Pret. Independent places are good .... for good reason.
