Nice environment, in the now very cool Devonshire Square. I chose to have a light lunch (farmhouse chicken salad) which was nice enough, but hugely overpriced for the quantity on the plate. Can't speak for the quality of the steak which is the house specialty but it looked expensive on the menu and would need to at least match or better the quality at Hawksmoor or Gaucho to give it an advantage, and would need to substantially exceed the steaks at Moo Grill which are very much cheaper (and extremely good). Quality was fine and the wine menu was excellent but there is a lot of competition in the steak/chicken market and to me Hixter does not distinguish itself. I'll go again and try the steak and report back

We were looking for a decent 2 course lunch with a fairly quick turnaround and decided to give Hixter a try. The steak tartare was very good to start, and i followed this with the Steak Lobster and Chicken sandwich, which whilst a little unwieldy was very tasty. Prices were acceptable and service good.

5 friends visited on Friday night.

Decor on the restaurant level was pretty basic but I guess that's the style, kind of canteenesq.

Our waiter was nice enough albeit had a tendency to come across as patronising... Ie "you might not have heard of a chateauxbriand cut".

Meat board was impressive for it's scale.

We had a variety of starters, as well as 2 friends I had the steak tartar. It was pretty bland and I ended up using the Tabasco from my mates oysters to boast it up a bit. Much better tartar at many other places.

We ordered a variety of cuts - the steak was very good and on par with the best steak in town in my experience.

Wines were good, we stayed on a Malbec with port to close.

£122 each was a bit steep but didn't feel robbed.

Worth a go for somewhere different and the bar down stairs looked pretty cool.

Another visit to a Hix haunt, and another very good meal.

As at the Oyster and Chop house the food is excellent. Here the venus is a bit more hip & hoxton but the atmosphere comes together nicely. Barebrickwork doesn't seem naff here.

The team really do know how to cook a piece of cow, but here there's a bit of fun in the nibbles that preceded the main event. Tramshed apparently do the same, but you really have to try the chicken livers with yorkshire puddings. Wonderfully rich with a hit of brandy perhaps, and a very clever little invention. Pork scratchings were great too.

Wine list is reasonable and you has some very nice bottles in the £30-40 bracket so often overlooked in London eateries of late it seems to me. And bringing constant water to the table is a nice touch so often overlooked.

However, sadly not entirely without fault.
If you're going to have a bar outside in the courtyard its probably not a bad idea to have someone staff it at 6:30pm. Likewise when we ordered the steaks we were told they would be 20-25 mins. That stretched to more like 45mins. Not the end of the world but a noticable gap, and one that would have been entirely acceptable had we been kept in the loop. People are far more forrgiving of delays if you tell them they are delayed....

But that minor quibble aside a really very venue, and one I shall recommend and indeed return to.

Seems the modern trend of late in London is to open up a reputbale steak house proporting to serve quality food. With Gaucho, Hawksmoors, Goodmans, STK all good examples. Hixter tries hard but nothing really distingushes it from the others. Bog standard steak cuts, done in various sizes, with tpyical entree's and typical alternative choices of chicken etc make this place no different than any other. Even the over fried thin cut fries looked the same. Not a great wine list to distinguish itself, nor service that you would rank as been effecient you could easily get the feeling that the owners figured they would just have to open a steak restaurant of any quality and the punters would rock up. Rock up we did. Doubtful we would again.
