This hotel has only been in operation since the beginning of the year and it seems that the Hilton Group has another winner. To begin with the hotel is ideally located for visiting all of the venues in the center of London and Waterloo station is only a few minutes away to provide efficient access to all public rail transport.
The Hotel itself is new and spotless. The emphasis is not on frills but rather on efficiency. There is a bright cheerful waiting area good seating, spacious work tables and a small library. The lobby area melds into a bar/snack where the complimentary breakfast is served and that in turn leads to the Asado Restaurant that features Goan food. The main floor is very functional but not ostentatious. However, the Asado Restaurant demands special note. It is not flashy but ;laces a premium on superb taste and friendly and efficient service. The limited menu features Goan cuisine that is simply exquisite. The fusion of Indian flavors--zesty curries, light, aromatic nan—along with some standard English favorites such as perfectly prepared and presented fish and chips makes the Asado an experience that should not be missed. The ground floor also houses a functional though not exciting workout room that is more than adequate for most athletic needs. Let’s face it, the majority of hotel guests are not Olympic athletes in training.
The rooms emphasize the hotel’s utilitarian approach. The bed of course is the key to any hotel room and the Hilton bed is perfect. No extraneous pillows, throws and etc. that have to be tossed into a corner. An excellent chair and accompanying lamp, a sizable work desk and swivel chair, an adequate TV, functional closet, several large, well placed mirrors and a combined set of metal bedside drawers and safety deposit box complete the accessories. The bathroom is spacious and very well planned with an excellent shower and a supply of high quality towels. There is no real art, although perhaps a large photo of nondescript buildings makes a weak pretense at an artistic touch. The overall effect is pleasant functionality.
One jarring aspect of our stay had nothing to do with the hotel premises; It concerned the neighboring property which had a cement planter that bordered on the hotel. This plant-less planter had been turned into a receptacle for empty pop cans and other odds and ends discarded by passers by. Although this is not hotel property it is adjoining and reflects poorly on the spanking new property. Something should be done about it.
