“Good value, good location, but needs some TLC”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

We picked Days Inn Hyde Park for a budget overnighter so we could be near friends staying in a bigger and much more expensive hotel locally. At sub-£100 inc breakfast for two people via a booking.com deal, I was pleasantly surprised that reasonable quality accommodation can still be found this price level.

First impressions were fine: helpful, efficient check-in by friendly staff; clean public rooms; adequate bedroom with comfortable beds and good linen. Bedrooms are small although we had a family room with two doubles and a single, and two ensuite shower/toilets. Some details were a bit shabby - worn and peeling varnish on bedroom furniture, TV on a wonky bracket (though it worked fine), a couple of patches in the carpets - but nothing serious on the cleanliness or health and safety front.

Sussex Gardens is fairly quiet at night and we slept well. Breakfast was standard budget hotel self-service continental buffet fare, adequate and more than acceptable since it was included in the room price.

If you don't expect too much and just need a comfortable, well located stopover, Days Inn will fit the bill.

One of the most pros to me was that, the hotel 4 minutes walking distance from London Paddington station, Sussex exit, 7 minutes to edge ware street and 10 minutes walking distance to Oxford street, where a lots of shopping. Rooms r very small, windows are very tiny and don't giving much more breath to the room.

The hotel back is on a ventilation site and very noisy.

Food is very humble (i. e.Breakfast), but generally it's good for stay!

Thanks to management.

We stayed for 2 nights and the stay was good enough for the duration of our stay. Very close to Paddington Station which was very helpful. It is also very close to cafes, bars and souvenir shop which was very helpful for us. The room was small as expected in London. The lady at the desk when we arrived (she wears glasses) was very dry. I guess this is also expected customer service from UK. Overall, the stay was good enough , nothing out of the ordinary.

We would sing the praises of Marci, Felicia, and the Cook in the kitchen. These front desk staff went above and beyond in their service and help to us during our visits. They arranged tours for us, directed us on the best transportation options, and made pub reservations for us. Always with warm smiles, and strong willingness to help, and make us feel we were welcome and special. The kitchen Cook set out food and made early preparations for us on the day of our departure to help us make our train schedules on satisfied stomachs. Days Inn management - you have great people working for you here!

Chose this hotel because of proximity to Paddington station as we were travelling to Heathrow the next morning. Location was good, only 5 mins from station and about the same to Hyde Park & Kensington Gardens in the other direction.

Pleasant helpful staff and we were given an early check in; however as other reviewers have commented , the rooms are tiny. We had a twin room and we could barely find a space to put our suitcases. Probably it might be better in a double room. Rooms were reasonably clean and adequate bathrooms (carpets looked to need a clean). Breakfast was quite good, plenty of choice.

It suited us for one night but for a longer stay in London I would pay a bit more and stay at a Premier Inn.

I stayed for 6 nights of which 3 were totally lost, because taken up by the situation of an impossible bed and bedroom. I didn't sleep and tried to sort the situation by turning mattress and base around during the night! I ended up sleeping on the floor. The bed was saggy, the base old and worn to the bone. The floor of the room at such an angle that the legs of the bed needed adjustments up to 9 cm ( 3,5 inch) in order to be level. I asked for another bed after the first night, but staff wasn't very cooperative. Only after the third night I got another bed and some adjustment material for the legs. I got some compensation, but that didn't make up for the three lost nights and therefore lost days in London!
Rooms- on all floors- on the north-east are situated near a big ventilation shaft which is extremely noisy.
Rooms at the south side of the building are noisy because of heavy traffic.
Rooms on the north-west side are nice and quiet.
The orange- and apple juice in the breakfast room are just water with a little color.
A very sad experience this hotel was!

Room Tip: The whole front is noisy for traffic. At the back one section on all floors is situated near a big v...

Dear 12aliek

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments, regarding your recent stay.

I was disappointed to learn that overall, your stay with us did not meet your expectations. Please allow me first and foremost to offer my apologies for any inconvenience caused. We take great pride in offering our guests the highest levels of service and product and I am sorry we failed to meet all of your expectations on this occasion.

While some guests prefer softer beds we have recognised that the majority of our guests prefer beds which offer sturdier support and that is why we have recently replaced many of our beds with new Hypnos beds. Unfortunately we were not able to replace your bedrooms bed any sooner than the third day of your stay but having consulted my team they inform me that they did offer you a number of different rooms which you rejected. We have looked into your comments regarding our juice and have found that both the apple and orange juice have strong distinctive tastes, I can only assume that the juice machine had temporarily run out of juice when you tasted it for which I apologise. We have now informed staff to regularly test and observe the strength of the juice machine.

Please accept my sincere apologies once again for any inconvenience caused.I do hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to Days Inn Hyde Park and be able to restore your faith in our hotel.

Kind regards,

Christos Protopapa
