My family of three stayed in this hotel for five nights early July. I must say I've never got "a warm pot of tea" or "biscuits" as the other travelers said. The male receptionist at night was friendly and helpful, and there's one female receptionist during daytime that was very nice. Others seemed aloof and talked little.

Our room at the top floor facing the street is comfortable. It has double windows so when they are closed at night it's quiet. The bathroom is clean but very small, and there're no racks. Each time when we took a bath we didn't know where to put our clothes. It's a hassel for us. Also, on the last night we were staying there, we suspected that the maid didn't change the sheets and pillowcases, because the old stains were still there in the same position. My husband's pajama shirt, which he absent-minded left in his bed, was still under the pillow! I complained the next morning. The receptionist told me she would check with the maid. In addition, my daughter, who's 20 years old and 162cm, said her sofa-bed is really too short and uncomfortable. I wanted to change one for her but kept forgetting it in the mornings. We think the sofa-bed is for children.

There's one more complaint. Our room does not have racks for luggage, so all our three suitcases had to lie on the ground. The task of taking things out or putting them back thus became difficult. My husband was already suffering a chronic back pain, so it's hard on him. I don't understand how any hotel could be so inconsiderate!

To be fair, other aspects of the hotel, including the location, the breakfast, and the lounge are all good just like the other travelers said.

We recently stayed at The Sumner Hotel for 9 days, while visiting London, and I have to say the location of this hotel couldn't be more fabulous!!! You are within easy striking distance of all of the major sites of this amazing city, with only a short 2 1/2 to 3 block walk to the Marble Arch and tube station, yet you are away from the crowds and the noise. Very safe area, with wonderful restaurants (including coffee shop & take away), small convience stores, and shopping very close to the hotel. The rooms are well appointed & exceptionally clean. Small by American standards, but this never seemed to present a problem for us. The closet was ample enough so that we could unpack, for our 9 day stay - and we always overpack! The bathroom was small but very clean and quite adequate, with wonderful toiletries. The staff was always very warm and helpful. We were tired, after a long flight, and arrived in London on a chilly and rainy day. The staff immediately sent up a pot of warm tea and yummy biscuits to our room, which was truly a warm welcome! (They actually did this a number of times during our visit!) Breakfast is certainly ample, and the morning hostesses were always warm and welcoming. The lounge area, where you can sit and relax, is quaint and comfortable with bookshelves stacked with wonderful reading material - from travel books to novels. There is a computer available for all guests to use, and there never seemed to be a problem trying to have time to use the computer. The WiFi, in the rooms, is a little challenging, but in the long run, that didn't seem to really present much of a problem. The hotel is a beautiful Georgian Townhouse, with no garish signs out front. A simple, smally, gold plaque on the bulding is their identifier. We were to check out on Sunday at 11:00am, but wanted to attend worship service at the Abbey before leaving London. The staff was so wonderful in accomodating our wishes, and upon our return our cab was there within minutes to take us to the train station, to catch our train on time! We will absolutely stay at Hotel Sumner, the next time we return to London!

My husband and I stayed at The Sumner for 2 nights, early July and were very pleased with my choice of accommodation (yes, I researched here on Tripadvisor first, then shared options with my husband).

The Hotel is located in a side street within couple minutes walk of Marble Arch tube station. There's no big hotel sign on the building, just a discreet brass plaque next to the front door. Good choice of restaurants within a few minutes walk of the hotel.

Check-in was efficient and friendly and we were shown how the door keys work (they're slightly different to the usual hotel swipe keys). The interior is very smart and spotlessly clean; nice artwork in the lounge, where there was a computer for guests' use. There are two flights of stairs and two separate lifts to various bedrooms, as the hotel consists of two townhouses. Reception is located at the rear of the hotel, which was a bit confusing on arrival.

Our room (109) was on the 4th floor (lift available) and overlooked the road; it was very spacious by London standards, although the en-suite shower room was compact in comparison (according to my husband: seemed fine to me!). Furnishings looked brand new and towels were thick and soft. Nice touch to have complimentary bottles of mineral water in the room.
Note: no tea/coffee facilities in the room, but you can order hot drinks from reception for a reasonable charge.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and is taken in the basement breakfast room, which is very light and bright. There's a good choice of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cheese board, bread and crackers, juices and hot dishes. Certainly enough for a good start to the day.

If you don't need indoor pool, spa, restaurant, room service etc, and are looking for a central location at a very reasonable price by London standards, The Sumner may well be the perfect hotel for your London stay.

The staff of the hotel were helpful and friendly. They gave us good recommendations for restaurants and places to see. This hotel is conveniently located near an underground station, so traveling around London was simple! The rooms of the hotel are very clean and tidy. The beds are very comfortable, and we slept well. Breakfast in the morning was the perfect way to start the day. Eggs, sausages, fruits, vegetables, sweetbread and cereal are just some of the items served. I would not stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the backside of the hotel. It is quieter than the ones over the street.

The Sumner is really beautiful hotel in excellent location, near to main shopping market (oxford street)n other attractive sight scenes which you can simply walk from hotel, good part was that there was only high gentry very decent guests which we noticed in break fast time,we had such a great hot breakfast with multi type of cheese, breads, juices, eggs,Bacon, sausages.
Just a fantastic location if you are only staying in London for a few days!then you can visit any site within a minutes,We also had a LED big screen TV which was amazing!we were in King Room which was very big, nicely clean, very good toilets, here I want tell you that hotel staff was very friendly with discipline, receptionist were well known with London city to briefly advice you with good suggestions.Hotel manager Rohit was very decent help full gentle man,who offered us complimentary coffee with good chocolate biscuits,I think you can't get these type of beautiful rooms even if you pay double of room rate in heart of London.

There is always complimentary big size chocolates n water bottles through out the whole day in lounge which you can enjoy while roaming in London.
Our only issue was that we arrived very early, which we did understand that we could not just walk in at 10 am and get a room.

We really enjoyed our stay as I am missing London & Sumner. Will come back soon.

We are very happy to have stayed at the Sumner. The room had double-glazed windows and darker curtains. They gave us a sheet and blanket when we asked for it instead of the ubiquitous quilt that is often too hot. It was also airconditioned and had a lift!

Yet, it was convenient to Oxford Street and transport. Breakfast was on the Lower Ground Floor and was fine. Most of all though, the staff was helpful and professional. The manager was great. We were allowed late checkout and we enjoyed sitting in the relaxing lounge area while we drank our lovely cup of tea that was made for us.

This is the best place that we have found in London.

When we arrived at the Sumner our room wasn't ready and it was raining and we were tired from traveling. The lovely receptionest brought us (family of three, including 7 year old) coffee and tea in the well-appointed lounge and chocolate covered biscuits. I think it was noon...not exactly tea time. This was the just was we needed to regroup. The room was ready shortly thereafter. Our room was a triple and quite large for Europe. The bathroom well-designed and big as well. Modern everything. I have come to detest 'bedspreads' of any sort, as we all know what's on them. Happy to say the Sumner does the freshly laundered white duvet that I prefer. Traveling with a young daughter, she had brought some dolls, which the maid always took care to put in a special place in the room each day that my daughter loved to discover when we came back each evening. We had the sense we were well taken care of at the lovely, clean, well-located Sumner. Only negative is spotty internet reception from our room on the third floor.
