“Lovely People, Amazing Shower”
Reviewed 16 February 2012

Positives: The staff were very genuine and helpful, they made us feel very welcome. The room was reasonably clean, not massive, but decorated very nicely. The hotel clearly allowed for the bathroom to be a decent size. It was spacious and impressive, again decorated in a very modern way and the 'rain-maker shower' was the best shower I've ever had. It really added that special quality to the room. The room service staff were extremely nice on the phone and very acquiescent of our awkward dietary requests. The food always came very quickly, exactly what we'd asked for and at what I thought was a reasonable price, considering the notorious mark ups of room service food.

Negatives: The shower door leaked, so the bathroom floor was quite wet. Possible I didn't shut it properly, so that could have just been my mistake. The view was of an alleyway, so left a lot to be desired aesthetically.

Possible improvements: Personally I would been really impressed to find iPhone/iPod docks, as many hotels are doing this now and it would given elevated it to excellent. However, that's a personal preference.

Despite this, the pros outweighed the cons by miles, and we will definitely be returning. The friendly attitude shown by all staff we came into contact with really made us feel able to relax, as well as the room being near perfect. Thank you very much Hoxton Hotel!

This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel, with my children. At first glance you would think it a little off the beat and track but actually it is only 8 mins in a cab to Kings X, and a few minutes walk to Old Street, which links you to tube network. The city of London is within walking distance or jump on a bus and see where it takes you.

The rooms are lovely, comfortable beds, spacious we had an extra bed in the room and we still had plenty of space. The road side rooms are a little noisy with traffic.

Best part of our stay was the amazing breakfast, we had the complementary pret breakfast in our room and an hour later we went to Hoxton Grill, for delights such as sour dough, with avocado and poached egg, grilled cheese sandwich and full English.

next time I want to stay longer and explore all the recommendations on the Hoxton mini guide.

Room Tip: book in advance, for best price

Hi dawninwarsaw,

We are glad you enjoyed our not typical location - we try not to deliver a typical hotel experience! Delighted you like our rooms and enjoyed (two!!) breakfasts. Hope to see you back soon - our team would love to chat to you about the fantastic bars, restaurants, art and shopping our location in Shoreditch has to offer.

With thanks,

Timothy and the Hox Team

I've stayed here a few times and believe this is one of the most reasonable hotels in London. I love the ambience of the lobby - comfortable seating areas and a buzz about it. Reception staff are very firendly and helpful. Rooms are comfortable. Tea and coffee making always a bonus. I like the Pret Lite breakfasts - something no other hotel I've stayed in provides so you can't really complain... I love the straightforwardness of this hotel. Would definitely recommend as good value if you book early enough.

It's everything you would expect from a trendy hotel setting...an often busy, fun, and noisy lobby, come bar, come restaurant, etc....the room street-side room was fine and quite and comfy cozy. The bed especially provided a soft and deep sleep!

I was very pleased with the hotels 'upfront' and honest pricing policy in regards to room extras, unlike most others, whereas included int the room price was 1-hr per days free international calling to a wide range of places, two bottles water and a milk, and a tasty petite Pret A Manger breakfast bag of fruit & granola yoghurt, a banana and orange juice!!! Even purchases at the front desk (crisps, wine, beer) were relatively reasonable. If you needed a heartier breakfast...then room service was reasonable and quick.

Desk service was friendly and helpful. Very impressed!

However the smaller room space was in need of a little TLC in the entry hall (scuffs and a bit dirty) and shower. Given the very 'active' lobby...it would be more comforting to know that the lifts to the rooms were only operational via room key card access...which they are not.

The only disappointment we had was the use of the restaurant (The Hoxton Grille) and after dinner drinks in the lobby/restaurant area. Our birthday dinner setting was near the entrance to the hall leading to the toilets...so heavily trafficked by bar punters...the dinner service was poor/challenging to say the least (with only 1-1/2 hours reservation given for our meal)...and there was no where for us to sit afterwards in the crowded non-guest lobby. We ended up sitting for over an hour in front of the very cold front doors :(. The staff did try to help with the post-dinner seating, but without success. [note to hotel - a small 'guests only' area might work!]

However I must add that the food and drinks at the restaurant were wonderful...and breakfast in the quieter, more service friendly lobby on Monday morning was great...so this balanced the difficult side of things.

Overall a very pleasant stay and lessons learned, grab a seat early (or reserve) in the lobby if you plan to stay late! Would def do this again!!

Room Tip: Don't be afraid of street side rooms - well insulated and quiet

Hi trixink,

Thanks for taking the time to tell us how much you enjoyed the hotel. Delighted you liked our hotel's approach to honest prices ( we hate £5 bars of chocolate in a minibar! ). Let us know when you would like to join us again and we would love to reserve you a cozy spot in the bar.

With thanks,

Nice helpful staff. The restaurant is excellent, but the "Lite Pret Breakfast" is a joke, one small yoghurt, one banana and a orange juice.

Efficient service, nice staff. nothing can complaint except breakfast is boring, yogurt might not suitable for everyone n fruit is not enough, bread with butter will be more realistic.

I've recently spent a week at this hotel on a business trip and hold it in nothing but the very highest regard after that week. The bar and restaurant is excellent - and value for money to boot - and the rooms stylish and comfortable. The reception desk took deliver of two parcels for me and even arranged to get a shirt ironed for me free of charge when I missed laundry collection. The staff was friendly and efficient throughout and made me feel very welcome... These top marks are well deserved. Ps. The fresh milk in the fridge for coffee is a nice touch.
