I work and go out in the area quite often, the history behind this old pub is really interesting and the atmosphere is friendly too but they absolutely should do something about their toilets! Every single time I went there the smell was almost unbearable and the state of decay obvious!Maybe they use it as part of their story, making you thing "these were the kind of facilities you could have found 2 centuries ago".

One of the best restaurants I have been in in London in many years. Romantic atmosphere with gas lights true to the history of the bar below.
Unusual menu with a novel take on Christmas menus.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. I cannot recommend this place strongly enough.

For Jack the Ripper scholars and enthusiasts alike, this is a must see since it has not changed much since 1888. It's a very popular pub and was packed when I was there. Be sure to have a pint while you're there so you can take in the ambience.

If you are expecting a tourist attraction (David P) with some idiot wearing a Victorian top hat talking to idiots in a let's pretend cockney accent then go somewhere else. This a very popular pub which, yes, does have historic connections but that is not what it's all about. This is about a real pub that local people love and lots of people go to who are visitors or people having a drink after work who like it because it is real. We love the toilets... people have been scribbling on those walls for many decades and that's how history begins. As for "visible references to it's history" it is a functioning pub, not Disneyland! However if you had an eye for history you would have noticed that the walls still have their original tiles put there c.1752 (which Jack the Ripper's victims would have been very familiar with. There are also some newspaper cuttings on the walls as you go down to the toilets which are reporting Jack's killing spree and the whole fabric of the building is authentic... tsk tsk probably better if you stay closer to home next time eh?

Went to the Ten Bells for drink on the 20 January , thought that it would be a nice place to have a few drinks and was looking forward to seeing some history with it's links to Jack the Ripper but what I found was an overpriced establishment with no visible reference to it's history a bar man with a pony tail, baseball cap and covered in tattoo's, the walls in the toilets were covered in graffiti . A place to avoid , what a shame.
