“Amazing views....nearly there but not excellent.”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

Stayed on Saturday night for my birthday.....great check in, very personal and friendly. Was served tea in the room, shown around it and then a wonderful birthday cake arrived! Room lovely, everything you would expect from 5 star hotel, views incredible. We had triple aspect views of London from the London eye side all the way round to tower bridge, could not be better.
We asked straight away to book a table for a drink before dinner which was noted. Unfortunately this was not available when we got there, we were seated at the bar which was very entertaining given how busy the place was but slightly disappointing not to get the table we booked when resident in very expensive room! Pool was pretty spectacular but strange not to have at least a poolside shower before you jump in. They have missed a trick in not having a sauna where you could enjoy the views! Breakfast the next morning was nice but had to wait in the room for a table as there is no where to sit in reception. Slightly confused layout and lack of glasses but nice staff trying very hard! Overall a lovely one off experience but have stayed in overall better 5 stars in the city.

Room Tip: Room 4301 amazing triple aspect.

We stayed for my partners 30th and from start to finish the stay was amazing our room had superb views towards London eye and parliament and beyond! There were a few minor details missing but overall our weekend was just incredible

Room Tip: Just check the toiletries in the room as some of ours had been used and not replaced sadly.

I took my wife here for the night as an anniversary present.

First off the view is great if you get the right room, and this is obviously the unique selling feature here. Was a nice touch to have binoculars in our room.

However, quite a few points of disappointment.

Firstly as has been mentioned before, the bar which is such a great draw is more focused towards outside guests. So as it was full we didnt really have anywhere to go for a pre dinner drink.
Secondly the swimming pool by its placing as a quasi part of the bar makes it slightly uncomfortable to use with random people walking past all the time, and in general feels like an after thought - there doesnt seem to be a defined separate spa area which is a shame for such an expensive hotel.
Thirdly I felt the room set up was really odd. we has a premium corner room with views from all sides, but with a TV and chunky cabinet in the middle, a couch one one side and a table on the other, a lot of the wow factor was lost behind wood block furniture. But most fundamentally, you may have seen reports that you can see into other peoples rooms. I dont know from other rooms, but from ours you could directly see into others, including the bed area, which means they can also see into ours. This could be avoided by drawing the blinds, but then you lose the extremely expensive view and could be anywhere. This is a really fundamental flaw.

Overall, I wouldnt come back to this hotel. Service is of course top notch, no expense has been spared on the set up, but in my view you could do a lot better booking a table at the bar for sunset (given theres no priority for hotel guests they will be happy to do this for you), have drinks there and get your moneys worth of the view there, and stay the night in another 5* deluxe hotel which will probably be much cheaper and in a more central location, and where noone can look directly into your room!

Dear Richkangaroo,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I am sorry that you had a less than favourable experience with us recently and I apologise that you experienced issues regarding visibility, we are just finalising the works that will be put in place to solve this problem but in the meantime we do advise guests upon check-in to use the electronic blinds when necessary for privacy.
Our pool is only open to in-house guests and is not accessible via GONG bar until 8.30pm when the pool is closed for swimming so we do hope this issue will not happen again in the future.

I would like to get more feedback from you personally regarding this, please could you provide us with your contact information by calling +44(0) 207 234 8187 or emailing claire.hepworth@shangri-la.com?

Many thanks,

Darren,

Was an amazing stay at the hotel. Only issue is that at night you can see the reflection of the other people in the next room in the mirror so have to put the blind down. Apart from that it really was amazing

Room Tip: Room has everything you would possibly need.

World of difference when stepping this property. Travelers that appreciate top notch service can expect that from check in to check out. I was though a bit concerned when I was in my bath enjoying views and I noticed one of the neighboring rooms were looking at me. The hotel told me they are working on it and apologized profoundly and offered to change my room immediately, even offering an upgrade. I did take them upon their offer.

We went there for a two night stay in August14 - and had a really great experience with Europe's best cityview from the room at 45th floor. The room was beautifully decorated, very comfortable furniture, a nice touch with the IPAD,WIFI and welcoming tea. Everything worked perfectly as expected, of a new hotel and in that pricerange. If you can - then try it and it will be a lifetime experience !
