This is a great market for shopping in fact one of the best in London in my opinion. So many good bargains to be had and a very friendly atmosphere.

“Cheap, cheerful and plenty of ladies' clothes stalls plus Pie 'n' Mash at perfect prices!”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

Although this market is a little out of the way, if you know where you are going from the tube station, it's a brisk 10-15 min walk, during which time you can compare some of the older dwellings with the modern housing springing up.
Although the main selling attraction is ladies' clothing (from around £5 for jackets, dresses, tops) and inexpensive costume jewellery (you can buy pretty glass bead bracelets and "shamballa" style bracelets for £1!), there are a selection of other stalls, not to mention, the chance to eat in a genuine East End Pie 'n' Mash Shop - my recommendation is G Kelly: http://www.gkellypieandmash.co.uk/roman-road-market.php
I think pie, mash and parsley sauce was £4.50 and fruit crumble with custard or ice cream was £2.50 - eat in prices.....so genuine honest London fayre at a third of the price of Central London. Also worth a mention for a refreshing cup of tea (£1 a mug) is the cafe in the Idea Store Bow:

which is a library/info centre - with toilets!

Directions for getting to Roman Road:
Nearest tube: Mile End. Cross Bow Road and walk up Coborn Road, then right up Tredegar Road, left up St Stephen’s Road, and right onto the Roman Road.

Nearest DLR: Bow Church. Cross Bow Road, turn right, then left up Fairfield Road. At the end, turn left onto Tredegar Road, right onto Parnell Road, and left onto the Roman Road;

OR cross Bow Road, turn left then right into Alfred Street. At the end, turn right onto Malmesbury Road and keep walking. Just as you see the PDSA centre in front of you, there is an underpass on your left which takes you to Mostyn Grove (in front of you). Keep walking along Mostyn Grove until you reach Tredegar Road. Cross over Tredegar Road and turn left then right into Cardigan Road. Walk to the end which is Roman Road.

If you're feeling fit, then it's possible to walk east to the Olympic Park/Stratford Westfield where you get some great views of both the stadium and the City of London skyline: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Agricola+Court,+82+Parnell+Rd,+London+E3+2RY/Olympic+and+Paralympic+Village,+London+E20+1AT,+United+Kingdom/@51.5390976,-0.0154969,15z/am=t/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x48761d3e4e04dfdb:0xcfac7a43bbf5ab55!2m2!1d-0.0268252!2d51.5340924!1m5!1m1!1s0x48761d7adc50c6c5:0x19f91bdc1cabcc54!2m2!1d-0.009059!2d51.547502!3e2?hl=en
