“A really special and romantic hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2012

Found this little gem by chance as my girlfriend and myself were after a little break away in the capital.

The photos and website were fantastic enough but the reality was really something special.

From the moment you're greeted at reception by the super friendly staff you feel a perfect mixture between 'right at home' and 'escapism'.

The artwork was amazing and loved the little shop selling Hot Sauce and Sugarskulls!

We booked the deluxe room and it was incredible. The most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in, and a great en suite as well complete with Mexican tiles and scheme.... really fun and quirky.

The 'Honesty Bar' is a great idea although we'd drunk enough out on the town but the help yourself fresh coffee was great! Little touches like the dvd library as well, were really cool.

A simple breakfast of pastries, cereal and coffee was really all you needed and was just as high quality as the rest.

Would definitely stay here again. An absolute gem!

i stayed at the churchstreet Hotel for 6 nights and was thrilled from the cleanliness, comfort and uniqueness. Everythink appears just as beautiful in front of you as shown on the website with a cheeky-mexican flair and a lovely eye for detail in decoration and room arrangement.
The set up of the breakfast room was charming and cozy. The buffet(is included) comprised healthy choices of organic based food and the breakfast Lady's have been very relaxed and helpful.
I stayed for a further education course and it was always superb to be welcomed by the friendly staff and the most impeccable clean room with little choci bars and home made chilly sauce as a treat.L'Occitane toiletries with an enticing scent and the very fluffy Bed linen and towels don't let you cool either. The honesty bar on the second floor turns out to be a good concept too, since you have the opportunity to make yourself drinks with putting name and room number down, another plus for having trust in your guests and reinforces that feeling of being home once again.
Wifi is for free by the way.

The nice corresponding restaurant next to the Hotel the 'Gypsies & Angels' has to offer a superb assortment of food and wine and as soon as you walk into the Restaurant you feel transferred into a latin atmosphere with it's interior, decoration, concept of food and wine(Tapas, sherrys, south-american wine).

Location might make you a bit insecure, especially if you never have been to camberwell and don't know what to expect but this is just initially and dwindles away as soon as you walk through the part and you're interested in people and different cultures who retaining their roots which looks like a big battle of colours if you see the afro african people running around in their traditional costumes. Good puplic transport to the city is provided which takes you max. 20 min. to get to london bridge.

All in all the Hotel offers superb value for money and i've been a bit around. i'd say that the concept is perfect and you would not regret it.
it is also not easy to find Establisments with such an enthusiastic Team of Staff members who all very knowledgeable, so warm hearted and who are expressing their personalities in a way which is delightfull and not over the top or fake. Just very warm and open paired with knowledge is unbeatable.

My next trip to london is soon approaching and the church street hotel can certainly count on me that i will be back.

This is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in, a great little place. I can't believe that some people complained about stairs!! get a life people. This place is well priced, clean ,comfy and tidy, everything you could ask for in a hotel and it's well located in London, close to the bus routes and not far from the tube either.

Friendly staff and a tasty breakfast

Very unique hotel but all add to the stay. Rooms clean and very uniquely dressed. Staff very friendly. Great breakfast again with some nice different twists the normal hotel breakfast. Hotel with the right attitude! Nice touch's with the hotel such as the honesty bar, DVD collection in the bar.

This is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in.

The room was a little small, but that tends to be the case in London if you want to pay affordable money. The bed was large and comfortable, with nice bedding. The towels were good, even the little shower gels etc were nice and a little different. The decor of the room and, indeed, the rest of the hotel was wonderful and the whole hotel has a lovely feel to it. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The lovely bit was the honesty bar, which I like to think 99% of people play by the rules. You can help yourself from the bar whenever you want and write down what you've had and pay on checkout (a price list is provided!). the hand-written welcome note in the room was a nice touch too.

The Tapas restaurant downstairs looked very good, but we didn't have time as we were in London to see a show. Camberwell may not be the nicest place in London, but isn't too bad. the 68 bus stops opposite the hotel and took us straight to Aldwych and other buses to Victoria, Marble Arch and other places also stop there.

I would definitely reccommend staying here and I probably will again. We managed to get a room online for 90 pounds, but normal prices are a bit higher, but worth it. Having stayed there before I now know I would part with a bit more cash to stay another night there.

Our third stay, still a nice friendly place with excellent bus services running past into London very often. Did have inconsiderate guests above us, seemed like they were re-arranging the room between 1-2am, so called reception and they did act. The restaurant next door is fantastic; toiletries lovely; breakfast great. If you can't manage stairs, try to get a room that is below the breakfast room and also, rooms at the rear are quieter than at the front, despite double glazing.
