Owner description: One of London's best kept secrets has opened its doors to visitors. Beefeater London: The Home of Gin, the capital's first dedicated gin distillery visitor centre, lifts the lid on the extraordinary stories and events behind one of the world's favourite spirits. Beefeater Gin, is the only historic dry gin still distilled in the capital city and, as such, is uniquely qualified to tell the remarkable story of the history and production of gin in London. The interactive self-guided tour takes visitors on an enthralling journey through the history of gin in London. Discover how international politics, exotic imports from the British Empire, an era of Victorian entrepreneurs and some savvy American barmen made gin the world's favourite cocktail spirit. Learn how James Burrough created the award-winning Beefeater Gin, cementing it as a true icon of London. The tour continues with a guided walk through the live production process in the distillery's cathedral-like still house and allows fans of the spirit to get up close and personal with the fragrant botanicals used in the creation of the gin. The experience culminates with a complimentary drink - the classic Beefeater Gin and Tonic. All under 18's must be accompanied by an adult, Proof of ID may be required on entrance to the tour, Under 18s will be offered a complimentary soft drink. Online booking is recommended however walk-ins are welcome subject to availability.

“A Gin-tastic Gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2014

I was excited to discover that the Beefeater Distillery was opening it's doors to the public - like the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory of Spirits I was curious to see behind the scenes. The entrance to the experience is very chic and plush - with modern art elements representing views of London. The girl on the counter was extremely friendly and welcoming; I couldn't have asked for anymore plus her explanation of the tour was very informative, the self guided part through the newly constructed museum followed by the staff led tour of the distillery aspect. The museum itself was fun - enough to give you the history and story of gin and Beefeater without being too much of an information overload. I like the combination of themed rooms as well as some interactive displays, display cabinets and atmospheric sounds and smells! Then came the added bonus after viewing the museum - travelling upstairs to see the distillery and have a hands on experience with the botanicals used to create Beefeater's aromatic blend. We also learnt about the distillery process used to craft the gin which was interesting - the last bit of the experience was having a refreshing G&T made for us in the sleek modern styled bar. Fantastic! Then the icing on the cake was being able to buy from a range of all their gins as well as some fetching Beefeater glasses - I ended up with a bottle of their Beefeater 24 (which I have yet to try) and their new special edition "London Garden" which is all a bit too drinkable! This is a great way to spend an afternoon I highly recommend it!
